    Field Application Engineer

     

    Department: Sales, Marketing, and Product Management

     

    Employment Type: Full Time

     

    Reporting To: Senior Director of Global Sales

     

    Compensation: $90,000 - $100,000 / year

    Description

    The Field Applications Engineer (FAE) is responsible for the support of the sales, marketing, and manufacturing of Capacitor products with global manufacturing facility. The FAE will travel to visit customers and assist customers’ engineers with the technical aspects of their design. The person acts as technical liaison to customers and will also heavily interact with Product Management, R&D and Sales, Marketing & Customer Service teams.

     

    The ideal candidate should have an outgoing personality, an interest in learning about new technologies, and a desire to collaborate with the customers. The FAE will help uncover technological trends and translate their needs into product solutions, or help incorporate them into product development roadmaps.

    Key Responsibilities

    Build and maintain strong technical and commercial relationships:

    + Function as primary technical liaison for catalog and standard products.

    + Interact with customers to define custom part requirements and evaluate feasibility

    + Field customer technical questions

    + Coordinate with Sales to fully understand their requirements and applications

    + Work with engineering team to define testing and evaluation where required

    + Detailed drawing packages – customer drawings, assembly drawings and component drawings, specifying critical (inspection) dimensions

    + Review of customer specifications. Provide feedback and request changes to customer documentation as necessary

    + Applicable electrical and mechanical testing procedures

    Develop technical and application literature:

    + Assist customers, sales representatives, and the Sales and Marketing organization with technical discussions and training. Function as primary initial contact on technical issues.

    + Develop, review and assist in updating Knowles Capacitors Presentations, brochures, White papers, blogs and market research.

    + Maintain catalog, datasheet, and website technical content.

    + Write and/or assist in writing technical articles and papers.

    Works with Product Manager to address market needs:

    + To participate in new product development and the design of new or modified parts and their transfer to production.

    + Perform experiments to verify and improve capabilities in coordination with the engineering team.

    Other:

    + Develop appropriate strategies, tactics, monthly reports, and annual plans

    + Travel and training in support of customers may be required.

    Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

    + BS degree preferably in the electrical engineering discipline with focus on system designs and familiarity with passive components, especially capacitors (aluminum electrolytic, film, mica, supercapacitors and MLCC.

    + 3-7 years’ work experience in a technical role with customer interaction.

    + Ability to travel 40% to 50% of the time.

    + Experience with designs using passive components (capacitors) in Power supplies, RF systems or pulse energy systems is a plus

    + Self-directed, highly professional and collaborative.

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    + Strong attention to detail and propensity for accuracy of work product.

    + Accountability to the timelines of task completion.

    + Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities within a fast-paced workplace.

    + Strong problem solving skills.

    One element in our total compensation package is pay. The starting salary for this role is between $90,000 - $100,000 per year.
