Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our team in Orangeburg, South Carolina. This is a Contract-to-long-term position, offering an excellent opportunity to transition into a stable role with a dynamic organization in the education sector. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in managing disbursement processes and a strong background in general ledger accounting and reporting.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee and manage disbursement operations, including payroll processing, accounts payable, and student refunds.
• Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, including tax withholdings and benefit deductions.
• Supervise vendor invoice processing, purchase orders, travel reimbursements, and other payables while ensuring proper documentation and approvals.
• Administer the student refund process in compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, including timely filing of W-2s, 1099s, and other necessary reports.
• Develop and implement internal controls and procedures to ensure efficient and accurate disbursement operations.
• Collaborate with departments such as Human Resources and Student Financial Services to coordinate data and resolve disbursement-related issues.
• Prepare regular and ad hoc reports on payroll, accounts payable, and refund activities for management review.
• Train, supervise, and assess disbursement staff while fostering a culture of accuracy and compliance.
• Support audits and compliance reviews by providing required documentation and addressing inquiries. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting roles, including senior-level positions.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in payroll systems, including ADP, and experience in accounts payable processes.
• Familiarity with education or non-profit organizations is highly desirable.
• Supervisory experience with a proven ability to lead and develop teams.
• Knowledge of federal regulations related to student refunds and financial aid disbursements.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on improving systems and procedures.
