How you will create an impact
The Senior Underwriter – Energy & Construction will be responsible for supporting the Facultative Desk Energy Product Leader in setting the regional underwriting strategy and the day-to-day underwriting, and management of the LATAM Energy & Construction portfolio written through the Miami FAC Desk including but not limited to:
+ Actively source, qualify, and complete underwriting process for Power Generation (included Renewables Energies), Oil &Gas, Mining, Chemical and Construction (CAR/EAR) accounts. This includes underwriting assessment of risks within UW authorities, preparation of referrals, and monitoring of Natural Catastrophe exposures where applicable.
+ Supports Product Leader driving development and execution of the LAC Energy & Construction underwriting strategy within global ‘guardrails. This includes monitoring portfolio performance, monitoring aggregate exposures and loss ratios, and P&L.
+ Drive underwriting excellence across the business by ensuring adherence to risk appetite, underwriting and line setting guidelines, technical rating, and pricing adequacy.
+ Collaborate with Distribution and Territory Managers, and other line(s) of business underwriters to target desirable accounts and identify cross selling opportunities from brokers and cedents.
+ Develop strong, long-term relationships with brokers and clients to profitably grow the portfolio.
+ Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients.
+ Work with Claims, Finance, Operational, Accounting, Legal, and Actuarial support teams to support portfolio management functions.
+ Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity and inclusion.
+ Prepare key performance indicators including but not limited to monitoring of submission flow by distribution channels and analysis of losses/ claims behaviors, among others.
+ Support in the preparation of presentations to both internal and external stakeholders as the business requires.
+ Maintain updated underwriting files based on corporate guidelines.
+ Ensures the required standards of governance, systems and controls, and regulatory compliance are established and maintained for the Energy division.
What you’ll need to succeed
+ University degree; Engineering degree preferred.
+ 5+ years’ experience in LATAM Energy underwriting sector preferably in Power Generation and renewables.
+ Strong understanding of risk selection process, exposure analysis including BI calculations, Catastrophe Risk perils, and technical interpretation of engineering survey reports.
+ Strong understanding of actuarial methods in support of pricing risk (including Catastrophe Risk modelling and pricing), claims and reserving practices.
+ Advanced working knowledge of local & global policy forms/ wordings, industry specific clauses and coverages.
+ Advanced knowledge of Energy technology standards and equipment, emerging issues & trends, and developments in the market.
+ Established LAC FAC broker network with strong professional relationships with key reinsurance intermediaries in the region, as well as with clients and cedents.
+ Knowledge of LAC FAC market placement dynamics and distribution channels.
+ Demonstrated business savvy, analytical and quantitative skills with strong problem-solving abilities.
+ Proven track record of delivering profitable growth in Energy LAC Facultative markets.
+ Strong business acumen, with a proven track record of making sound judgment backed by strong analytical and quantitative skills.
+ Strategic and result oriented, managing vision and purpose.
+ Ability to multi-task and prioritize workflows efficiently.
+ Effective negotiation and management skills.
+ Strong influencing and communications skills, and ability to work collaboratively and manage stakeholders effectively in a matrix structure and across a wide geography.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Fluency in English and Spanish. Portuguese preferred.
