The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Manager Research Lab to work at the UHealth medical campus in Miami, Fl.
CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Manager, Research Laboratory (A) oversees the day-to-day operations of the research laboratory, including maintenance and upkeep and ensuring an efficient and effective laboratory working environment.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
+ Formulates and implements short- and long-range goals for the operation of the laboratories.
+ Implements laboratory policies and procedures and coordinates with research staff on issues which impact laboratory services.
+ Serves as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, and staff to solve specific operating problems and improve technical activities.
+ Advises on technical procedures, techniques and equipment, and maintains conformance with specific operational standards.
+ Maintains quality checks on the safety of laboratories and insures maintenance of the facilities according to good laboratory practices. Installs and maintains laboratory equipment in compliance with federal regulations.
+ Assures that the laboratory technicians are properly trained in standard operating procedures and equipment specific requirements.
+ Assists in the determination of fiscal requirements and in the preparation of budgetary recommendations. Compiles and prepares reports and analyses, setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations and conclusions.
+ Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
+ Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
+ Knowledge of business and management principles.
+ Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
+ Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
+ Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
+ Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
Department Specific Functions
Identifies, purchases, installs, and maintains all essential laboratory equipment in compliance with federal regulations and with laboratory expectations. Coordinates the purchase and maintenance of all laboratory computers and software with UHIT and SCCC IT to ensure an efficient and effective laboratory working environment. Assists with experimental design, sample preparation, and analysis; specifically related to analytical techniques including mass spectrometry and high-performance liquid chromatography. Assists and contributes to the preparation of research communications, publications, presentations and grant submissions. Train personnel on chemical, biological, and physical safety and implement and enforce lab safety protocols. Maintain chemical inventory and safety data sheets (SDS) and coordinate hazardous waste disposal. Assists with ensuring compliance with DEA and radiation safety. Manages access to internal and external data in coordination with IT, collaborators, and external shareholders.

Education:
Experience:
Minimum 1 year experience operating mass spectrometry and high-performance liquid chromatography equipment.
Minimum 5 years’ experience with general laboratory techniques, including but not limited to: tissue culture, qPCR, western blot, and animal husbandry.
