PVN ID: JJ-2506-006871
Category: Instruction and Social Service
Job Description
General Description
The Learning in Practice project focuses on curricular and co-curricular innovations that align priorities for personal growth and deep learning with students’ professional aspirations. This project eliminates a gap in the student experience by creating courses that bridge the exploratory phase of the first year of college to the knowledge application phase that defines upper division coursework and experiential learning opportunities. The central innovation of the project is the introduction of courses into the General Education program that align knowledge and skills students develop in college with the cross-domain problem solving, reasoning, and communication skills required in the contemporary workplace, so that students are better informed and prepared to achieve their academic and professional goals. The project will yield three new General Education courses that address questions in the fields of: public safety, sustainability, health, education, and economics, and infuse existing coursework with authentic learning including simulations, investigations of career options and specific employers, and case studies scaled to the problems that entry level and intermediate employees are often expected to solve.
Project goals include:
+ Increase equity in educational attainment and success
+ Develop students’ employability prospects
+ Enact learning experiences that reflect students’ motivations, needs, and histories
+ Develop and sustain industry partnerships
+ Increase students’ ability to transfer cultural capital (skills and knowledge) across domains and in diverse professional contexts
+ Sustain continuous improvement models in the curriculum so students to reach their full social, civic, and economic potentials
The project coordinator will assist the faculty and administrative leadership of the Learning in Practice Project in meeting these goals and project milestones on the established timeline.
The coordinator is an individual committed to student-centered, active learning pedagogies with professional experience in teaching or curriculum development in postsecondary settings. The coordinator reports to the project PIs and will:
+ plan and schedule project meetings
+ participate in twice yearly reporting activities
+ provide information for project assessment
+ coordinate with Open Educational Resource librarians
+ develop materials for seminar and asynchronous faculty development resources
+ participate in regular project meetings with supervisor
+ participate in 1-2 project team activities per month
Other Duties
Qualifications
+ Graduate degree in Education, Curriculum and Teaching, or related fields
+ At least two years classroom experience in postsecondary or secondary settings
+ Proficiency with Microsoft suite
+ Ability to communicate complex information to varied stakeholders
This is a part-time position requiring a commitment of 10 hours per week on a hybrid schedule.
The initial appointment will be for 7/1/25-12/31/25, with opportunities for extension.
