Duties and Responsibilities
Your Impact
In this flexible relief role, your contributions may include:
+ Conducting medical evaluations and triage for new arrivals and in-shelter animals
+ Providing urgent care and stabilizing emergency cases
+ Performing surgical and dental procedures as needed
+ Collaborating on treatment plans with staff veterinarians and leadership
+ Ensuring adherence to shelter medicine protocols and public health standards
+ Supporting cruelty or neglect investigations through medical documentation
Education, Experience, Licensing
Qualifications:To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
+ Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)or equivalent from an accredited veterinary institution recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)
+ Active Florida Veterinarian Licensein good standing at the time of hire
+ USDA Category I license, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment
+ Ability to obtain aFederal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license
+ Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Supplemental Information
Status: On-call, relief-based scheduling
Hours: As needed, typically Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; may include occasional after-hours availability for emergency consultation
EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES:
All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed. This may include temporarily being assigned to work and performing duties outside of the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.

Lee County employees eligible to participate in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) are required to contribute 3% of each paycheck to FRS. If you have retired from the Florida Retirement Pension plan you will not be eligible for renewed membership in either of the FRS retirement plan options. Retirees of the Investment Plan are eligible for renewed membership in the Investment Plan only. FRS reemployment rules apply for both.
