Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in tax accounting or tax auditing; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus one year of experience in tax accounting or tax auditing; OR
A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus one year of experience in tax accounting or tax auditing; OR
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics plus one year of experience in tax accounting or tax auditing; OR
An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics, or a Juris Doctorate; OR
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or a current Louisiana license to practice law.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
This position is responsible for conducting audits to determine the correct amount and distribution of sales taxes, collected and/or due for state and local taxing jurisdictions in Louisiana. This position will have the following duties:
Auditing Taxpayers 95%
+ Reviews records and operations of national and international businesses to determine sales tax liability and the correct distribution of sales tax due for all taxing jurisdictions (state and local) in Louisiana. These records could include, but are not limited to, computer-driven reports, invoices, credit memos, shipping receipts, exemption certificates, websites, third-party records, bank statements, and state and federal income tax returns.
+ Reviews records to determine compliance with state and/or local laws, ordinances, and rules.
+ Uses data processing information systems, software and other automated tools to assist in performing audits.
+ Documents discrepancies and prepares work papers to support findings, including tables, schedules, exhibits, confidential comments, and correspondence with taxpayers.
+ Writes reports to summarize findings and collect taxes or issue refunds.
+ Communicates with business entities to explain laws, procedures, taxpayer obligations, discuss findings, and provide advice on accounting improvements.
+ May interview witnesses to obtain, clarify, and confirm evidence regarding possible tax evasion.
+ Uses effective sampling techniques during audits, as warranted.
+ If necessary, support findings to attorneys and/or testify in court.
5% Other Duties as Assigned
+ Performs other duties as assigned by the Audit and Compliance Manager and/or the Executive Director.
