Summary: The Director of Operations, also known as the Director of Make & Move, is a senior leadership role entrusted with the comprehensive oversight of Cortex's Engineering, Manufacturing, and Shipping day-to-day operations. Tasked with aligning operational strategies with organizational goals, this position ensures seamless collaboration across all departments, driving excellence in performance and goal attainment. The role collaborates closely with executive leadership, department managers, and analyzes operational data to optimize efficiency and productivity.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM DUTIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Direction:
• Direct oversight of Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D and Shipping / Receiving.
• Foster strong relationships with Purchasing, Accounting, HR, Safety, Quality and IT.
• Leads production planning, capacity management, and workflow optimization.
• Oversees product development initiatives and engineering support for customer-specific needs.
• Implements lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement programs.
• Responsible for inventory management, warehouse logistics, and outbound shipping processes.
• Prepares and manages departmental budgets and reviews spend for operational efficiency.
• Collaborates with Installation, Purchasing, and customer teams
• Leads department managers in resource capacity planning, optimizing productivity and efficiency.
• Oversees facility maintenance and planning.
Problem-Solving and Decision-Making:
• Applies deep technical knowledge and operational acumen to solve production and process issues.
• Leverages cross-functional coordination to mitigate disruptions and drive efficiency.
• Demonstrates a high degree of creativity and latitude in problem solving, adapting to evolving challenges.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises Manufacturing Supervisors, Engineers, and Shipping / Receiving leads. Purchasing will remain under corporate leadership, with a dotted line to the Director of Make and Move. Ensures alignment of day-to-day execution with department goals and fosters team development.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field with 5+ years in manufacturing and operations leadership or equivalent related work experience.
Language Skills: Strong written and verbal communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders. Able to write SOPs and present technical content clearly.
Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform advanced level of mathematical reasoning.
Reasoning Ability: Exhibit creativity and latitude to identify work process problems and viable solutions.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Maintain membership in appropriate professional organizations.
Physical Demands: Sit at workstation for prolonged periods of time and adjust visual focus. May need to go into shop environment on as needed basis. Travel may be required.
Travel: Some travel is expected and required.
