    The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Transportation Safety, Compliance and Training Manager! This position ensures the University of Colorado is aligned with all Federal, State and Local regulations for the roughly 700 plated vehicles owned and maintained by the University. The role also ensures all operators of CU vehicles have all required licenses and certifications, and leads the training curriculum for motor vehicle operations.

    Transportation Services provides comprehensive transit, fleet management, and maintenance to serve the faculty, staff, students, and visitors at the University of Colorado Boulder. The CU Boulder vehicle fleet numbers over 600; a robust transit system moving 1.4 million riders per year at the University of Colorado-Boulder campus; and guidance for driver operations for campuses located in Aurora, Boulder, and Denver.

    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    Safety and Compliance

    + Develop, implement and audit safety policies to ensure compliance with respect to Local, State, and Federal transportation regulations. Coordinate annual DOT bus inspections.

    + Responsible for driver training, safety and compliance, and bus safety and compliance.

    + Monitor and work with operations leadership on permissible driver hours in accordance with Federal hours of service rules and regulations in accident/citation appeal processes.

    + Identify potential Transportation safety issues or impacts caused by regulatory changes.

    + Review the components and procedures of the Buff Bus Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR).

    + Conduct regularly scheduled safety meetings with Drivers and Transportation Operations Leadership.

    + Provide support and respond to accidents and/or weather or other emergency situations involving Transportation.

    + Conduct both accident investigation and reconstruction to determine factors contributing to accident and other safety related incidents involving state, local and Federal transportation authorities.

    + Coordinate Reportable Accident Registry required by FMCSR.

    + Manage and update Driver Qualification Files ("DQFs").

    + Designated Employer Representative (DER) for CDL Drug & Alcohol Program.

    + Ensure pre-employment, random, post-accident, or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing is performed according to University and legal and regulatory guidelines.

    + Manage pre/post trip inspections, incident and accident, and fueling procedures.

    Training

    + Coordinate training of campus CMV/CDL drivers and new drivers on Buff Bus routes with the Fleet Training Specialist.

    + Support the Fleet Training Specialist in the training and licensing of CU student drivers receiving their CDL.

    + Review and update the curriculum and certification process required of all new CU employees to drive a CU owned motor vehicle.

    + Develop new driving training programs to be offered to CU students, faculty and staff. These could include operations and safety training for electric vehicles; accident prevention training for anyone involved in an accident; safe driving training for those receiving a speeding or red-light violation.

    + Provide Bicycle Friendly Driver training.

    This is an in-person position with an anticipated work schedule of Monday - Friday during regular business hours.

     

    What We Can Offer

     

    The salary range for this position is $57,100 - $70,000 annually.

    What We Require

    + Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.

    + 1 year of professional safety experience in a workplace.

    What You Will Need

    + Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).

    + Knowledge of the Hazardous Materials Regulations contained in 49 CFR.

    + Ability to build collaborative, collegial, and harmonious working relationships with professional peers, community constituencies, and external agencies/entities.

    + Effective social skills and ability to use clear and concise oral and written forms of communication.

    + Proven decision making, reasoning and analytical skills.
