    IT@JH Networking, Telecom and Data Ctr is seeking a **_Network Analyst._** This is on-site position, heavily focused on installation of compute and network gear, network optical cabling infrastructure and testing, performing maintenance, monitoring environmental and network infrastructures, upgrades, and configuration of devices. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting in troubleshooting of complex IT systems in the enterprise data centers, as well as intercampus connectivity that impacts mission-critical enterprise, academic, medical, and HPC research systems and application services. This position will work closely with other network analysts and network engineers to deliver and troubleshoot network services. Advanced knowledge of the OSI model is required. The role supports network engineers, systems engineers, and storage engineers for all IT services in the enterprise data centers and networking points of presence across the region. Will be lead on small projects and assist engineers in other projects. Requires a demonstrated understanding of service excellence techniques and skills and the ability to interpret customer needs in a fast-paced environment. There will be some instances where off hour support is required.

     

    Job Scope/Complexity

     

    Position primarily focuses on entry level design/analysis projects for data and voice/video communication systems throughout the Johns Hopkins enterprise. Job complexity includes basic engineering/design/installation of data/voice/video communication systems, small to medium project management tasks, providing reviews and recommendations for new products, implementation and management of monitoring systems, and interfacing with customers to understand needs. Typically, this job is focused on a primary Johns Hopkins campus; however this position is expected to travel throughout Maryland/DC to cover any Johns Hopkins location as required.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    + The responsibilities listed below are typical examples of the work performed by this position.

    _Network Analysis & Design_

    + Manages small projects and program components (migration to new systems, location changes, scheduling, installations, product research, etc.) by following established guidelines/objectives to deliver service to customers.

    + Creates basic network infrastructure design or may assist with moderate network designs, with assistance.

    + Participates in development of project planning documents by using established departmental guidelines to deliver successful projects.

    + Provides assistance through product research and/or working on a component of the overall design in network planning, network architecture and engineering with a focus on enhancing network and backbone infrastructure.

    + Produces written reports (e.g., status reports, research results, project plans) by using standard tools to document analysis of a network architecture or system

    + May give presentations on ideas, designs, plans, and/or solutions by using standard presentation tools to communicate to a variety of audiences.

    _Installation & Configuration_

    + Installs network systems (including wireless) by using established procedures and tools to meet the functional objectives of the business

    + Implements changes by adhering to the change management policies and procedures for any given project. Communicates to all parties the nature, significance, and risk factors of the solution.

    + Implements network management platforms (e.g., CISCO Works, HP OpenView, What’s Up Gold) that provide critical information used to manage and affect changes to network components by using provided solutions to deliver consistent network performance to customers.

    _Maintain & Troubleshoot_

    + Troubleshoots moderate network malfunctions that may be isolated to a specific department, floor or building by using provided procedures and tools to deliver successful solutions to the customers.

    + Investigates technical problems of moderate complexity with changing variables by using provided documentation and tools to provide root cause analysis and solutions to problems.

    + Produces and analyzes network performance reports by using tools provided to gain deeper understanding of network bandwidth and/or latency issues to justify upgrades or aid in troubleshooting.

    + May maintain and manage a centralized collection of network traffic analysis data by using provided tools to deliver information to others on the team.

    _Technical Collaboration_

    + Performs in-depth research on specific network disciplines to provide feedback on best practices, industry trends, troubleshooting, etc. to team members.

    + Interfaces with customers by meeting with them to understand needs and provide appropriate follow up with supervision.

    + Perform other related duties as requested.

    On-Call Requirements

    + No on-call expectations at this time, but subject to change.

     

    _*The position is on-site, with the primary location in Baltimore, MD. Travel may be required to support sites across the MD/DC/VA region and St. Petersburg FL._

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Two years college course work.

    + Two years of related experience.

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

     

    Classified Title: Network Analyst

    Role/Level/Range: ATP/03/PC

    Starting Salary Range: $53,800 - $94,400 HRLY (Commensurate w/exp.)

     

    Employee group: Full Time

     

    Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:30am-5:00pm

     

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
