Your Specific Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities
This position with the Orange County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is primarily responsible for independently assessing WIC and potential WIC client appointment requirement and to a multiethnic and multilingual community via central telephone system. This position provides general and specific information about the WIC Program and other Health department and community programs to the public and makes referrals as necessary. Travel may be required, therefore, a valid state of Florida driver’s license to drive a County vehicle or have reliable transportation are required.
Obtains basic information to complete client’s demographic and health data through telephone interviews with current and potential WIC Program participants and inputs client information into the WIC system. Instruct participant, parent/guardian in the proxy procedure, certification periods, and appointment policies. Instructs participant, parent/guardian in the redemption process of WIC Program benefits and notifies participants of their rights and responsibilities as a WIC program participant.
Schedules appropriate appointments for participants/potential participants through the WIC appointment system. Answers questions regarding access to WIC program services. Refers participants to appropriate to WIC offices, supervisors, health department services, other state programs and/or to applicable community agencies and organizations.
Perform follow-up activities regarding referrals for WIC program services and for missed WIC program appointments. Works various WIC data system reports regarding missed appointments, client eligible for benefits with no future appointments, current non-participation clients, expiring short certifications and other data related issued as needed arise. Provides participants and guidance on how to access to Florida WIC App. Verifies transferring client information. Processes client transfer request by calling appropriate out of state WIC offices and verifying WIC certification information. Determine if WIC or potential WIC participants have any special requirements (I.E. need for deaf interpreter). Communicates needs to appropriate supervisor/WIC nutritionist.
Attends and participates in staff development and training and required in-service training sessions, as well as regularly scheduled departmental staff meetings. Prepares and submits bi-weekly reports of time and services provided. Prepares request for travel reimbursement and submits according to pre-established departmental procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned. Whenever possible, the determination of income eligibility and/or nutrition risk eligibility and issuance functions must be separate in order to insure program integrity as stated in DHM 150-24, page 3-1, section -2.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skillful in professional telephone etiquette. Knowledge of WIC computer system. Ability to record information accurately. Knowledge of local DOH programs, services and community agencies. Ability to communicate effectively.

Mininum Qualifications:
+ Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole
