Reporting to the Director of Clinical Informatics, the Associate Director of Operations will serve as the operational leader of the Clinical Informatics team. This role manages a portfolio of complex, multi-stakeholder projects that impact patient care, staff wellbeing, and operational efficiencies. In addition to hands-on work, the Associate Director also leads and grows a team of 3-5 full-time employees, coaching and nurturing their capabilities.
Clinical Informatics represents one of three key verticals of the larger Informatics & Analytics department and serves as the department’s core resource for clinical consultation, pilot design & testing, and novel product development. We aim to deliver solutions to enable clinicians and staff to provide world-class patient care.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ **Lead and Mentor the Clinical Informatics Team:** Lead and mentor a diverse team of Clinical Informatics staff, including professionals specializing in product management, technical integrations, project management, and change management. Develop the team's skills to adapt to evolving departmental priorities and technological advancements. Provide guidance on daily operations and strategic direction to ensure the team delivers impactful solutions across various clinical programs. The team supports multiple departments and functions, working collaboratively to advance clinical informatics initiatives Institute-wide.
+ **Manage the Clinical Informatics Project Portfolio** : Oversee the Clinical Informatics project portfolio to ensure alignment with organizational strategies and goals. Define, document, and enforce best practices, workflows, and operating models across all projects to maintain consistency and efficiency. Make critical decisions on project prioritization, resource allocation, and methodologies that affect both short-term deliverables and long-term clinical informatics capabilities. This role has a significant impact on the Institute's ability to leverage informatics for improved clinical outcomes.
+ **Develop and Communicate Clinical Informatics Strategy** : In collaboration with the Director, develop and articulate the Clinical Informatics strategy, setting clear goals and tracking accomplishments. Engage with senior management to align strategies with broader organizational objectives and adapt to changes in institutional priorities. Communicate the strategy effectively to stakeholders at all levels to foster understanding, support, and collaboration. This responsibility influences the Institute's direction in clinical informatics over the long term.
+ **Manage Relationships with Internal and External Stakeholders** : Cultivate strong relationships with senior clinical and operational leadership to understand their needs and promote collaborative initiatives. Source, negotiate, and manage contracts and relationships with contractors, vendors, and external collaborators to secure necessary resources and expertise. Represent Clinical Informatics at internal and external presentations, meetings, and conferences to influence key stakeholders and advance informatics initiatives. This role requires effective communication and negotiation skills to build partnerships that support the Institute's mission.
+ **Oversee Clinical Informatics Operational and Capital Budgets** : Oversee the planning and management of operational and capital budgets for Clinical Informatics. Make strategic decisions on resource allocation and investments to support key initiatives while ensuring fiscal responsibility. Monitor expenditures, analyze financial performance, and adjust budget plans in response to changing project needs and organizational priorities. This role plays a critical part in maximizing the impact of financial resources on the Institute's informatics capabilities.
+ **Coordinate Cross-Department Initiatives and Align Systems** : Identify opportunities for coordination with other Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) systems and data sources, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture. Collaborate with management across other Information & Analytics (I&A) and DFCI teams on cross-cutting projects and initiatives. Facilitate cross-functional integration to enhance efficiency, data sharing, and interoperability, impacting both daily operations and long-term strategic goals. This responsibility enhances institutional collaboration and supports the seamless operation of clinical informatics systems.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Lead and grow a team of 3-5 direct reports, including mentorship, coaching, upskilling, and management.
+ Matrixed supervision and direction of multiple internal and contracted resources.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
+ **Education** : Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in relevant domain preferred.
+ **Experience** :
+ 7+ years of experience in product management, project management, data, analytics, AI, data science, software engineering, or related roles.
+ 5+ years of experience required in a biomedical, healthcare, health-tech, or life sciences field.
+ 3+ years of direct people management and/or program and project leadership experience.
+ Proven experience leading and developing high performing indirect project and solution delivery teams with a user-centric and impact-first mindset.
+ **License/Certification/Registration** : None required

+ Proficient project, program and portfolio manager, with excellent analytical, organizational and time-management skills.
