    SUMMARY

    Sets up, operates and maintains CNC controlled mills, lathes and EDM machines; interprets mechanical component and assembly drawings to machine parts to close tolerances by performing the following duties.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

     

    Applies the principles of metal cutting to work pieces and cutting tools.

     

    Calculates geometrical and operation-related values necessary to the trade.

     

    Reads and uses mechanical component and assembly drawings.

     

    Interprets and uses trade related reference charts and tables.

     

    Accurately uses and records measurements with precision measuring devices.

     

    Adjusts feeds and speeds to improve quality and achieve maximum efficiency with minimal tool wear.

     

    Uses knowledge of G and M codes to write CNC programs.

     

    Practices general shop safety and 5S practices.

     

    Confers with engineers to resolve machining or assembly problems.

     

    Develops fixtures and tooling without assistance.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

     

    Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    2 year Technical Degree in Machinist Technology.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
