In this search, we are recruiting someone who demonstrates experience working on educational program innovation and leadership.

     

    The** **Evans School of Public Policy & Governance** **has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Academic Program Innovation.

     

    This position develops new learning opportunities and enhances existing courses and programs to create the exceptional learning experiences expected by those who come to the Evans School for learning. The individual in this position reports directly to the Evans School Assistant Dean of Students & Learning to develop, innovate, and implement programs for all Evans School students, both those in credit- and non-credit bearing programs. This position will work closely with Evans School instructors to provide centralized support. The Director is part of the School’s Teaching and Learning Innovation Team and supervises the Program Manager for Professional Learning Programs. This position will collaborate closely with the Evans School Digital Initiatives team on implementing technology-enhanced learning strategies.

     

    The Academic Program Innovation (API) Director will develop a business strategy for credit and noncredit programs, setting short-term goals in support of the school’s annual action plan and work with the Associate Dean for Teaching & Learning and the Assistant Dean of Students and Learning Innovation to ensure necessary infrastructure and coordinate resources and opportunities with other Evans School programs.

     

    The Director also has programmatic responsibility and delegated decision making for non-curricular aspects of Evans School’s noncredit professional learning programs, including establishment of formal relationships with employers and funders, budget development and monitoring, and management of logistical staff. The Director leverages the operational support and infrastructure of the Evans School, such as marketing and communications, financial and facilities management, to enable an efficient and cost-effective start-up, until programs are sustainable.

     

    **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Program Development and Implementation (40%)

    + Oversee development of individual programs. For each, work with Faculty Lead & Program Managers/Directors to research and develop flexible curriculum format that is appropriate, relevant and timely for the program audience.

    + Work with the Senior Director for Digital Initiatives to leverage relevant technologies in course development and delivery.

    + Get input from partners and relevant experts.

    + Collaborate with Faculty Program Directors to find subject experts to collaboratively design courses and educational experiences, as well as teach.

    + Manage program identity and engagement strategies, leveraging knowledge of Evans School faculty, affiliates and adjuncts, and staff. Identify opportunities for new program development that meets the needs of learners in an evolving public service landscape. In coordination with the Evans School Communications Director and individual program leads, develop branding, identity, and messaging for new and existing programs.

    + Cultivate, build, and sustain relationships with internal and external partners and prospects, and coordinate with advancement and Industry relations. Build pipeline of prospects for programs, working closely with subject matter experts.Technology Enhanced Learning Design (40%)

    + Collaborate with Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning and Digital Initiatives team to support a student-centric approach to learning design based on best practices and evidence-based research in instructional design.

    + Collaborate with Digital Initiatives team to continue to improve our course design templates for learning management platforms.

    + Collaborate with Digital Initiatives Team to create clear workflows for the development and implementation of course assets by instructional designer (creation of learning management platform templates, production of media assets).

    + Lead internal Evans School ‘Community of Practice’ among instructors around use of effective technology enhanced learning methods to engage with students and professionals with diverse learning styles. Support the application of established, evidence-based practices.

    + In collaboration with Student Affairs team, engage with Evans school students and learners to inform a student-centric approach to learning design.

    + Troubleshoot program issues on an ongoing basis with the team as needed.Operational Management (20%)

    + Supervise Learning Program Manager(s) responsible for program implementation.

    + Establish and maintain program business processes. Maintain effective operations that contribute to achieving organizational goals; regularly evaluate and update for continuous improvement. Oversee development of individual program budgets and contribute to short- and long-term expense and revenue projections.

    + Serve as liaison with UW Continuum College on program operations and logistics. Contribute to organizational budgeting and development of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with institutional partners, working collaboratively with Evans School fiscal staff.

    + Oversee internal and external partner communications. Create plans and tools that build and support strong partner relationships as well as exceptional user experience for program participants. Implement policies and procedures to manage issues and promote PLP activities. Respond to constituent inquiries and requests.

    + Represent the Evans School, at professional meetings, seminars, and conferences. Collaborate with internal and external partners, and represent the program to outside organizations, constituencies and the general public.

    + Other duties as assigned, including evening and weekend work as required by programmatic and business need. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

    + Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, plus four years of progressively increasing responsible work experience in academic setting, including experience in learning design, program development/management, and/or classroom teaching or training experience **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**

    + Experience and demonstrated expertise leading projects that use technology to solve educational problems and innovating to realize opportunities to improve the educational experience.

    + Demonstrated understanding of learning theory.

    + Ability and willingness to work in both a leadership role and an implementation role as part of a high-functioning team.

    + Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills sufficient to prioritize, form strategic plans, and build a program from inception to operation.

    + Knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices, and experience applying and interpreting a broad range of policies and procedures.

    + Advanced oral and written communication skills, used in situations requiring political acumen, conflict management, and an awareness of cultural differences; demonstrated experience and ability to communicate effectively, including empathetic listening, presentations and public speaking. Ability to persuade and influence people over whom you have no formal authority.

    + Professional demeanor and ability to effectively interact with a broad community of faculty, researchers, program managers, staff, students, and funding agencies, and to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience working with individuals from different cultural, ethnic, geographic, and experiential backgrounds.

    + Attention to detail, ability to think strategically and creatively, gather appropriate input, and act decisively. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

    + Master's degree in education or a related field.

    + At least 10 years of experience working in an academic or industry setting, preferably managing programs and leading teams.

    + Demonstrated experience developing academic programs on new topics or managing executive education programs.

    + Experience working with faculty about teaching methods that foster student-centered learning.

    + Understanding of FERPA and standards of compliance with working with student data.

    + Understanding of the market for higher ed programs, credentialling options, and industry training programs and education benefits.

    + Knowledge of evaluation and other assessment of learning outcomes.

    + Experience hiring trainers, instructors, or technical experts.

    + Experience with budgeting, budget development, and appropriate overhead and costing mechanisms in a university setting to cost customized programs for a net financial gain.
