A growing body of research suggests that lifestyle interventions, including exercise, meditation, the arts, and social connection, can significantly influence brain function.

The Suzuki Lab is dedicated to studying such interventions, particularly as they apply to school and university settings. What is the optimal exercise “prescription” that maximally enhances learning, memory, attention, mood, and academic performance? Can “doses” of meditation or mindful conversation have similar effects? What is the role of music in brain function, and when does music help (or hinder) performance goals?

We are seeking a detail-oriented, motivated Lab Manager to oversee and support the day-to-day operations of our lab. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining the structure, efficiency, and integrity of our research activities and in mentoring undergraduate research assistants.

    Key Responsibilities:

+ Identify and assign weekly tasks to research assistants, and follow up on completion

+ Meet weekly with lab Principal Investigator (PI) to set goals, identify priorities, and plan subsequent lab activities

+ Assist in leading weekly lab meetings, including reporting study progress and taking detailed notes

+ Select and distribute relevant academic literature for discussion

+ Draft and manage IRB submissions, including revisions and communications

+ Track ongoing studies and participant completion rates

+ Coordinate participant scheduling and compensation

+ Organize participant recruitment events (‘tabling’ sessions)

+ Ensure compliance with human subjects research training, certification requirements, and cybersecurity/data storage practices

    Approximately 10-15 hours per week

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is $29/hr. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

+ Bachelor’s degree, ideally in a life or social science discipline

+ Strong understanding of psychology and/or neuroscience research methods

+ Experience reading and discussing academic journal articles

+ Familiarity with IRB protocols and ethical conduct in human subjects research

+ Excellent organizational and communication skills

+ Demonstrated ability to foster a supportive, inclusive environment for students

    Preferred Qualifications:

+ Previous experience working in human subjects research labs

+ Familiarity with basic statistical analysis and tools (SPSS, R, Excel)

+ Demonstrated interest in lifestyle interventions and knowledge of relevant literature
