Summary The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). The National Museum of African American History and Culture is a national museum for the study and exhibition of African American history and culture. Responsibilities The Rights and Reproductions Specialist is responsible for supporting the museum's rights and reproductions program and assisting with the management of digital assets and primary digital collection objects. In this position, you will: monitor [email protected] and respond to public and internal inquiries related to the distribution of digital images and other digital assets, including images of NMAAHC collection objects, exhibitions, and events, and images from the Johnson Publishing Company archive. Ensure digital images and other digitals assets are distributed with the proper clearance, caption, and credit information. conduct copyright research and help to advise staff on all aspects of permissions clearance for the use of the museum’s digital images and other assets. Assist with interpretation of whether the legal doctrine of fair use applies to allow the museum to use copyright-protected works in specific instances. assist with creating and updating guidelines related to distribution of digital images and other digital assets. Help develop a plan and time for systematic review of copyright documentation and rights status. Draft statements of work and requests for quote/proposal. serve as a contracting officer’s representative (COR) or vendor technical point of contact (TPoC). assist with coordination and support for digital asset management and quality control related to digital image and other files ingested into and stored in SI’s digital asset management system (DAMS). Assist Digital Asset Management Specialist as needed to ensure that all files are prepared for and properly ingested into DAMS. Qualifications 0Basic Qualification: Experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. In addition to the basic qualification requirement above: Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as locating digital assets in a collection information system (CIS) and/or digital assets management system (DAMS); conducting research to determine copyright status; drafting, implementing and updating policies, guidelines for a rights and reproductions program. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience.
