This posting will be used to fill 2 positions in the Baxter Sign Shop department.
Job Duties:
+ Performs skilled sign installation and maintenance, along with snow and ice control activities, to ensure roadways and roadsides are safe, clear and in good repair according to MnDOT standards.
+ Installs message painting/taping.
+ Records each activity performed on signs or structures including materials used, equipment and time in the Transportation Asset Management System (TAMS) to maintain an accurate record of both sign and structural assets in the field, along with gathering photos of damaged assets to support the MNDOT restitution process.
+ Follows Federal and MNDOT guidelines for the layout, placement and proper use of signing along State Highways.
+ Performs sign location staking, and processes Gopher One Call located.
+ Conducts field sign inspections and monitors the Highways for improper signing situations.
+ Installs emergency and temporary signing on detours, constructions projects and other emergency projects.
+ Determines proper traffic control layout and performs traffic control.
+ Partially fabricates standard signs such as speed limit numbers, mile markers, and County Road signs.
+ Managers time and travel for daily assignments to maximize efficiency while prioritizing urgent signs.
+ Operates, inspects, and maintains articulating truck mounted cranes.
+ Transfers and operates the full range of heavy equipment used by Mn/DOT.
+ Tracks sign inventory so that signs are ordered, and material is on hand.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
+ **Experience:** The level of experience to perform this job at the TG level can be achieved with:
+ One year of experience performing any of the following:sign installation and maintenance, roadway and roadside maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, operating heavy equipment, farm experience, snowplow operations, road construction, etc.
+ Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction and tanker endorsement.
+ Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist.
