    Outreach as defined by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma is the act of providing Trauma Center expertise, information and leadership to institutions, agencies and individuals within a region for the purpose of improving the care of injured patients.

     

    Trauma Outreach Coordinator (TOC) is responsible for assisting the Trauma Program Director in the coordination of education to achieve comprehensive and integrated care. Monitors the trauma care rendered to identify problems and trends in the trauma care and compliance with the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Program. Serves in a clinical educator role to improve the knowledge and practice base of all staff from pre-hospital through rehabilitation that provides care to trauma patients. Coordinates and evaluates the Trauma Services education and injury awareness/prevention programs. Responsible for establishing a partnership with community agencies and regional agencies in the development of injury prevention programs.

     

    I. Qualifications :

    A. Education:

     

    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, current License as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas. BSN preferred. Certification in CEN/CCRN; ACLS; PALS; TNCC and ENPC, including instructor status in TNCC and ENPC must be achieved.

     

    B. Training and Experience

     

    Minimum of three years’ experience in Emergency/Critical Care of the Trauma patient is required. One year experience in performance improvement, utilization review and teaching is preferred.

     

    C. Job Knowledge

     

    Comprehensive knowledge of professional standards of nursing; Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory agencies’ standards and guidelines. Demonstrate by previous experience and accomplishment an ability to apply a broad knowledge base to complex clinical problem solving within a health care system. Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and make recommendations. Ability to plan, develop and coordinate education and injury prevention activities and programs. Communicate professionally and effectively verbally and in writing.
