Overview
SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS DEVELOPER SME (HITS-R):
Bowhead seeks a Software Applications Developer SME to support the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) Integrated Technical Services -Restricted (HITS-R) contract headquartered in San Diego, CA. Bowhead will provide the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) with technical and professional support elements required for the operation of the HPCMP Office (HPCMPO) in all phases of planning and execution of its mission, including: technical and administrative support in all areas of program activity, program management support, meeting facilities and office environment, to include a complete telecommunications and computer systems capability and full logistical services. Developmental categories for this position includes Systems (air, land, sea) Design, Software Engineering, and Algorithm Development.
Responsibilities
+ Serve as a primary point of contact for users of HPCMP CREATE-AV Kestrel software across the DoD community.
+ Provide expert-level application support to over 1000 active users through help tickets, feature requests, webinars, and weekly office hours.
+ Lead and participate in training sessions—both in-person and virtual—targeted at workflows including hypersonics, store separation, trim, SixDoF, stability and control, FSI, mesh deformation, and coupled fluid-thermal simulations.
+ Conduct validation and verification activities, including manual testing and automated unit/system tests integrated into the Jenkins CI pipeline.
+ Collaborate with development teams to fix bugs and implement new features using Bash, Python, Fortran 90, and C++ within a Git-based agile software environment.
+ Maintain and extend automated build and deployment pipelines across HPCMP DSRCs and other approved platforms.
+ Contribute to program-level engineering efforts, including analytical investigations supporting DoD program offices.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
+ Demonstrated subject matter expertise in CFD, aero-thermal analysis, and HPC workflows.
+ Experience with Kestrel or similar multi-disciplinary simulation tools in DoD acquisition contexts.
+ Proficiency in scripting and compiled languages used in scientific computing (e.g., Python, Bash, Fortran, C++).
+ Familiarity with Jira, Git, Jenkins CI, and agile development.
+ Strong communication and teaching skills; experience conducting user training and technical briefings.
Physical Demands:
+ Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
+ Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
+ Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically
The salary range for this position is between $230,000 - $270,000
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level, may be required to obtain a Top Secret clearance upon hire. US Citizenship is a requirement for Top Secret clearance at this location.
