Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Electrical Controls Technician position will serve as a resource for the Chemical Technology Controls group in Corning’s Concord, NC facility. The main responsibility is to ensure that complex manufacturing equipment and processes meet daily production requirements in terms of safety, quality, environmental compliance, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
+ Provide electrical & controls support for the chemical technology group in the operations support services department.
+ Partner with engineering to execute large controls projects
+ Develop fundamental understanding of critical process and technical requirements, identify areas of technical risk in assigned projects, conduct prototype / feasibility testing to verify concept, and define and document system design specifications.
+ Actively participate in all phases of the project including design, fabrication, off-line integration and testing, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel, and technology transfer.
+ Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to successfully deliver fully integrated process equipment systems.
+ Monitor process attributes on a daily basis, initiate and verify responses throughout the support chain. Participate in synchronization efforts by actively receiving new technology and processes.
+ Seek out and implement cost reduction opportunities.
+ Provide high quality electrical and process support for a fast-paced 24 x 7 manufacturing environment.
+ Work closely with support technicians to resolve equipment issues.
+ Provide constructive coaching and guidance throughout all levels of the support organization to develop appropriate troubleshooting skills and techniques in others.
+ Ensure all equipment and processes are safe to operate.
+ Understanding of NEC and other pertinent safety codes.
+ Work with and troubleshoot PC hardware, drive formatting, backup systems, and server communication
+ Ability to work across various functional groups on a daily basis to accomplish goals: Operations, IT, Facilities, Project Engineering, QE, etc.
Experiences/Education - Required
+ 2 Year degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Controls Engineering or related feild AND 2+ Years of relevant experience working on controls systems and electrical equipment
+ Strong ability to be independent and self-motivated
+ Knowledge of C++ or similar structured text language as well as knowledge of ladder logic style coding
+ Ability to climb ladders and work in outdoor conditions
+ Knowledge of PLC control systems and how to interface with them
+ Ability to generate and interpret electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.
+ Good problem-solving skills.
+ Experience with computer hardware and software
+ Experience with LAN
Experiences/Education - Desired
+ Multimeter usage and troubleshooting signals
+ Self-starter able to exceed expectations with a minimal amount of Supervision.
+ Experience with Allen Bradley
+ Experience with Motors, Drives, Breakers, Starters
+ Knowledge of a 4-20mA control scheme
+ Experience with Rockwell Automation Software
+ Experience with Ignition
+ Experience with Factory Talk View SE
+ Experience with Cisco switch
+ Strong IT/Networking/Computer support

The range for this position is $58,614.00 - $80,594.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
