Summary Assistant United States Attorneys prosecute all criminal and civil cases brought by the federal government and defend the United States in civil cases. Responsibilities The position being advertised is for two Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA), one AUSA will serve as a Supervisory Assistant United States Attorney in the Organized Crime and Gang Unit and the second AUSA will serve as a Deputy Criminal Division Chief. AUSAs in the Criminal Division are responsible for investigating and prosecuting a wide variety of violations of federal law, including organized crime, drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, fraud, national security violations, public corruption, immigration offenses, and other offenses. AUSAs in the Criminal Division work closely with agents from all of the major federal law enforcement agencies. Promotions to Supervisory AUSA positions are made on a temporary basis at the discretion of the United States Attorney. These assignments can be renewed in increments of up to four years upon recommendation by the United States Attorney, and approval by the Director of EOUSA or designee. At the end of the temporary promotion, the Supervisory AUSA may be returned to a non-supervisory AUSA with the USAO or extended. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Required qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar in good standing (in any jurisdiction), and have at least three years post-J.D. legal experience. Preferred qualifications: Prior management experience is preferred. Applicants should be able to demonstrate by experience, knowledge, or training, that they have an understanding of leadership and managerial skills. Five years of experience as a criminal attorney, superior academic credentials, and experience briefing and arguing before federal appellate courts required. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement. Education Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree Additional Information Assistant United States Attorneys' pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $83,742 to $195,100, with starting salaries around $147,500 for lawyers who graduated in 2011.
