    + GENERAL SUMMARY

    + The Nuclear Medicine/ PET Technologist/ CT Technician works with leadership and radiologists to provide, enhance, and maintain high levels of image quality and patient safety. Reports to department leadership.

    + ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Performs and/or assists with nuclear medicine and positron emission tomography (PET) examinations and procedures under the direction of a Radiologist or delegating practitioner to produce exams which are used in medical diagnosis to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions or lesions within the body.

    + Under the supervision of a registered CT Technologist assists with Computed Tomography (CT) procedures under the direction of a Radiologist and delegating practitioner.

    + Provides services to support inpatient, ED, and outpatient imaging.

    + Works in conjunction with the Sedation and Anesthesia departments to facilitate and ensure timely placement of add-on/urgent examinations.

    + Assures customer satisfaction (interdepartmental, community and patient/family) with services.

    + Assists and supports new hire orientation and training.

    + Evaluates nuclear medicine/PET/CT images for technical quality.

    + Seeks guidance from management for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice.

    + Performs other duties as directed.

    + LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

    + Required Licenses and/or Certifications

    + + Registration or Certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-N) and/or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) required.

    + + ARRT(CT) advanced certification in CT or NMTCB (CT) advanced certification required within 12 months of hire.

    + + CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

    + Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications

    + MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    + Required Education and Experience

    + + Associate’s degree from approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology required.

    + Preferred Education and Experience

    + + Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

    + Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + + Strong knowledge of Nuclear Medicine/PET principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of nuclear medicine/PET equipment.

    + + Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patient/families, nursing personnel, and physicians.

    + + Analytical skills necessary to determine best method for providing required nuclear medicine/PET/CT studies for individual case following basic technical principles, to ensure clear undistorted images.

    + + Knowledge and proficiency in venipuncture for injecting radioisotopes/contrast.

    + WORKING CONDITIONS

    + Clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, body fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment.
