Description of Work

This posting is for a Engineering Technician I in the Division 4 Roadside Environmental Unit.
+ This position will ensure that mowing, litter removal and vegetation management contracts are prepared and administered correctly.
+ Position will provide technical guidance to the Roadside Environmental Unit crews to ensure the successful delivery of the work plan and provide prompt responses to maintenance needs.
+ The position will also serve as a contract administrator for mowing, litter removal and fully operated rental contracts.
+ It also requires familiarization with reading plans, contract specifications and applicable standards, and performing necessary inspections.
+ This position will perform a variety of office assignments using Microsoft Office, as well as making sure contractor’s invoices are correct, contracts are kept up to date and any other duties that may be assigned.
+ Work in this position will require exposure to all types of weather conditions as well as climbing, bending, walking, and operating equipment on uneven terrain and slopes. This position is subject to emergency call back, scheduled night work, and work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A CDL with Tanker (N) endorsement. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be maintained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49CFR383) within 360 days of hire. Safety toe shoes required.
You do not have to have a degree to qualify for this position. Applicants with at least two years of related experience are highly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary for a trainee may be set at a lower level than the classification salary range and recruitment range that is listed in the posting with the salary being adjusted up accordingly when the trainee has obtained the necessary additional education and experience to fully meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.
