Description
Join a dynamic and fast-growing real estate development and property management firm as a Senior Accountant, where you’ll contribute to high-profile projects in San Diego’s vibrant real estate market. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with substantial experience in real estate accounting, including property management, project development, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting:
+ Prepare and maintain general ledgers for multiple real estate entities, tracking financial activity across properties and development projects.
+ Process and review journal entries for property acquisitions, sales, depreciation schedules, and monthly closings.
+ Reconcile accounts, including tenant escrow accounts, mortgage payables, and reserve accounts.
Financial Reporting:
+ Compile monthly and quarterly financial reports for ownership groups, investors, and management, providing detailed variance analyses.
+ Assist in the preparation of year-end consolidated financial statements for compliance with GAAP and audits.
+ Ensure compliance with lease accounting (ASC 842) standards for real estate leases.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
+ Collaborate with the property managers and development teams to develop and track budget forecasts.
+ Assist in the preparation of cash flow projections for ongoing construction and operational projects.
+ Track operating expenses and ensure compliance with budget guidelines for all properties in the portfolio.
Compliance & Tax:
+ Partner with external tax advisors to provide all necessary documentation related to property taxes, REIT reporting, and other industry-specific tax considerations.
+ Ensure compliance with city and state landlord-tenant regulations, including proper management of security deposits.
Process Improvement:
+ Review and streamline existing accounting workflows to maximize efficiency and accuracy.
+ Lead the migration to new real estate accounting platforms, ensuring smooth system implementation and training staff.
Requirements
+ 3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the real estate industry.
+ Expertise in property management software such as Yardi, MRI, or AppFolio.
+ Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and financial modeling.
+ CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
+ Experience with multi-entity accounting structures and intercompany transactions.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
