Bill Watts at Robert Half is partnering with a dynamic, growing non-automotive manufacturing company and we are looking for a detail-oriented AP Accountant to join our team in the Grosse Pointe, Michigan area! This company is a fast-growing manufacturing company dedicated to producing high-quality products/materials for customers across multiple industries. As we scale our operations, we’re seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Accountant to ensure the accurate and timely processing of vendor payments and support the finance team in maintaining strong internal controls.
Position Summary
The Accounts Payable Accountant will be responsible for managing all aspects of the accounts payable function, including invoice processing, payment execution, vendor communication, and reconciliation. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will want to grow their accounting knowledge and potentially transition to a Staff Accountant in the future!
Key Responsibilities
+ Process a high volume of invoices accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring proper matching with purchase orders and receiving documents
+ Review and verify vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely payments
+ Perform three-way matching of invoices, POs, and goods receipts
+ Maintain and reconcile the AP ledger, ensuring completeness and accuracy
+ Process weekly and monthly check runs, ACH and wire transfers, and manual payments as needed
+ Support month-end close by preparing AP-related journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
+ Assist in maintaining vendor records and setting up new vendors in the accounting system
+ Collaborate with purchasing, receiving, and operations teams to resolve invoice and PO issues
+ Ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls
+ Support audits by providing documentation and responding to inquiries related to AP
Qualifications
+ Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
+ 2+ years of experience in accounts payable, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment
+ Knowledge of GAAP and AP best practices
+ Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Oracle, QuickBooks, or similar)
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
+ Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
+ Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
+ High attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred Skills
+ Familiarity with inventory and purchasing systems
+ Experience with ERP implementation or AP automation tools
+ Understanding of sales/use tax or freight charges in a manufacturing setting
Requirements
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in accounts payable and receivable roles.
• Proficiency in account coding and financial record management.
• Familiarity with accounting software systems and ERP solutions.
• Strong understanding of auditing and billing processes.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders
