Job Description:
The Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University is seeking two Academic Advisors to join its Undergraduate Student Services Office. These roles are essential to delivering high-impact advising, teaching, and student support that promote academic achievement, retention, and engagement. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to fostering student success through a holistic advising model.
One of the advisors will take on additional responsibilities as the primary academic advisor and point of contact for students in select scholarship programs, including Bergstrom, First Cyclone, Hixson, and Carver Scholastic Leadership. In this capacity, the advisor will guide students through their academic journey while supporting their unique scholarship-related requirements and opportunities. This role will also coordinate events and activities for students in the Academic Program for Excellence (APEX) summer program and contribute to year-round programming that fosters community and success among these scholarship recipients.
As an Academic Advisor II, you may:
+ Provide academic advising for 350-400 undergraduate business students, guiding them through course planning, degree requirements, and university policies using institutional tools and systems.
+ Contribute to retention efforts for first-year and transfer students through targeted communications, outreach events, and early engagement activities.
+ Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student progress and provide administrative support for student services programming.
+ Lead orientation courses for incoming students, such as BUSAD 1020 (Business Learning Teams) or BUSAD 1030 (general orientation), helping students transition successfully into college life.
+ Engage in college and university-wide initiatives, including committees, events, and programs focused on enhancing the undergraduate student experience.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, an understanding of student needs, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team and across campus. They should be comfortable using student information systems, apply knowledge of student development, and handle problem-solving and conflict resolution with professionalism and integrity.
