    The mission of The University of Texas M. D.     The Research Investigator will apply advanced scientific and technical expertise to design, conduct, and manage independent and collaborative preclinical research projects focused on cancer biology and treatment resistance. This position will lead efforts involving in vivo and in vitro experiments, including oversight of transgenic mouse colonies, execution of complex molecular assays, and data analysis. The role encompasses both wet lab activities (e.g., molecular biology, tissue processing, and animal procedures) and dry lab functions (e.g., computational analysis, bioinformatics, and data interpretation). The incumbent will be expected to contribute to manuscript and grant preparation, supervise research staff, and ensure compliance with institutional and federal guidelines governing animal research. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in tumor modeling, bioimaging, and data interpretation, as well as a strong record of collaboration, publication, and mentorship in translational oncology research.

     

    *JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES*

     

    Animal Research Proficiency - Demonstrated expertise in managing transgenic mouse colonies, executing surgical procedures, drug administration, tissue dissection, and interpreting imaging modalities (e.g., micro-CT, bioluminescence).

     

    Scientific Research and Experimental Design - Ability to independently design and implement complex laboratory experiments, including in vivo and in vitro cancer models, with strong troubleshooting skills and attention to scientific rigor.

     

    Data Analysis and Interpretation - Proficient in analyzing experimental data using statistical software and programming tools (e.g., R, Python, SPSS), with the ability to draw meaningful conclusions and contribute to high-quality scientific publications.

     

    Technical Proficiency in Molecular Biology - Hands-on skills in PCR, Western blot, cell culture, transfection techniques, and various biochemical assays essential to cancer research.

     

    Research Communication - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to contribute to grant applications, manuscripts, scientific abstracts, and present findings at academic conferences.

     

    Leadership and Training - Proven experience mentoring junior staff and students, fostering a collaborative lab environment, and ensuring adherence to research protocols and safety procedures.

     

    Regulatory Compliance and Laboratory Operations * -* Working knowledge of IACUC, GLP, and AAALAC regulations, with demonstrated responsibility in maintaining laboratory standards, managing budgets, and ensuring operational efficiency.

    *Education*

    *Required: *Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

    *Experience*

    *Required: *Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.
