    Our Position: The Arc Erie County NY is currently seeking a Coordinator of Nursing Services to oversee our therapy staff within our education program (School Age program in Cheektowaga and Preschool program in Tonawanda). This position also includes:

     

    + Establish, maintain and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive and cohesive approach to health care in our school setting that is student specific, allows opportunities for children with complex medical diagnoses to participate as fully as possible in their education, complies with NYS Education Laws and Guidelines, and adheres to the values established by The Arc Erie County.

    + Develop and implement child specific ongoing health plans for IEPs.

    + Develop, train, and in conjunction with the School Administrators, oversee the implementation of infection control guidelines in the classrooms.

     

    Our Rate of Pay: $70,000 - $78,000 annually (based off experience)

    Our Requirements:

    + Nursing Degree/Diploma from an accredited university or nursing program PLUS must possess a current unencumbered license to practice as an RN in the State of New York and must have nursing experience, with at least one year of supervisory experience.

    PLUS

    + A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Health Care related field is preferred WITH one-year experience. Willingness to obtain specialized training if necessary, i.e. Safe Person Movement Program, SCIP-R

    + An Associate Degree in Nursing or Health Care related field is preferred WITH five-year experience. Willingness to obtain specialized training if necessary, i.e. Safe Person Movement Program, SCIP-R

    Position Summary:

    Coordinate the health care of student in The Arc Erie County Education Program, supervise all nurses working in this area, ensure that all health-related regulations have established policies and procedures that are being implemented and coordinate health-related training of staff members.

    Reporting Relationship:

    Receives direct supervision from the Director of Clinical Services or designee. Provides supervision to the nurses working in the Education Program. Provides support to members of the School Administration (Principals, Assistant Principals, Senior Therapists, Teachers, Teacher Assistants, etc.) regarding health care issues.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Establish, maintain and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive and cohesive approach to health care in our school setting that is student specific, allows opportunities for children with complex medical diagnoses to participate as fully as possible in their education, complies with NYS Education Laws and Guidelines, and adheres to the values established by The Arc Erie County.

    + Review, update, and alter the approach to care as needs of our student population change.

    + Develop and oversee the implementation of general nursing care guidelines/standards of care for students who are technology dependent and/or medically fragile, students with complex medical needs that place them at high risk/susceptibility for infectious disease, children with seizures, food allergies, diabetes, etc.

    + Develop and implement child specific ongoing health plans for IEPs.

    + Develop and oversee the implementation of forms, documents, and daily logs used by the Nursing Department, teachers, and ancillary staff that reflect our staffs’ response to a particular child’s health care needs.

    + Supervise the delivery of these standards of care by the nurses in our Education Program.

    + Develop, train, and in conjunction with the School Administrators, oversee the implementation of infection control guidelines in the classrooms.

    + Participate in the Intake interview with parents of children with high medical needs and coordinate the paperwork for program entry.

    + Complete Surveys and oversee screenings as directed by NYS Educational Law: Statewide School Immunization Survey; Vision Screening, Scoliosis Screening. Complete all associated paperwork including parent notification and follow-up.

    + Provide training to our school nursing staff as needed so they are equipped to meet the changing needs of the student who are medically fragile and/or technology dependent, including but not limited to: students with tracheostomies, G/J Tubes, oxygen support, pulse-ox monitoring, catheterizations, ostomies, etc.

    + Provide “hands on care” when nurses are out and assistance daily in the routine administration of care: medications, feeds, suction/trach care, respiratory assessments, diabetic testing, insulin administration, general first aid, etc.

    + Oversee/direct and administer emergency first aid, coordinate the school’s response to an emergency event involving a child.

    + Assist with the development of a school wide Emergency Disaster Plan.

    + Provide support and counseling to families as needed through telephone calls, face to face meetings, tours of the program, etc.

    + Assist families in coordinating medical care/if staffing allows, attend medical appointments of students whose families need support/clarify the physician orders and/or advocacy on behalf of the student within the medical community. This also provides us the opportunity to educate the medical community on the services we provide students in an educational setting.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements:

    Essential Job Functions:

    + Physical demands and Exposure Risk outlined on attached form (A)

     

    Ability to bend stoop, squat, kneel, sit, reach, stand walk, push pull, climb flights of stairs, and lift/transfer a minimum of 15 lbs. and in case of emergency over 50 lbs., See, hear, listen, speak clear, have motor coordination; grip strength, eye-hand coordination. Physical agility/ability to react to life-threatening emergency or to intervene in a crisis situation including using your body as an intervention (SCIP or other techniques) as prescribed, to assure safety of our individuals

     

    + Mental Requirements:

     

    The ability to read, write, analyze, be perceptive/comprehensive, show good judgment, have good math & decision-making skills, independent action, planning & prioritizing and follow directions. Work independently as well as cooperatively with others. Be approachable, enthusiastic, personable, work under pressure and meet job-related deadlines accordingly.

     

    + Human Relations Skills:

     

    The ability to communicate with individuals in a positive manner, demonstrate the ability to be a leader and serve as an appropriate role model to staff members. Receive supervision instruction in a positive manner. Adhere to and administer Agency’s policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance to at all times.

     

    + Equipment Operation:

     

    The ability to operate medical equipment such as nebulizers, suction devices and the like; ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, copier, fax machine, and laminator.

    + Good attendance is vital for the efficient and effective operation of quality programming and is an essential job function of this position.

    + In the event of a weather, health or other emergency, staff may be REDEPLOYED as needed to provide necessary staffing coverage. This may include a redeployment/temporary reassignment to another physical location or line of business, i.e. Clinicians may be redeployed to temporarily work in an IRA, a school location or Day Hab site. This may be a remote or in person assignment and will be determined based on the needs of the individuals we serve.

     

    This position is EXEMPT from the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standard Act.
