A Patient Transport Customer Service Technician role in Newark, NJ is now available through Adecco Healthcare and Life Science. In this role, you will transport patients and/or patient related materials/and or supplies in a timely, safe, and professional manner to all specified service areas of the hospital.
Contract type: Minimum 6-month temp-hire position
Start date: June or July 2025.
Hourly pay rate: $24.54/hr.
Work hours: Monday-Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm, to include every other weekend and holidays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service provided is patient centered.
Actively contributes to creating a friendly, welcoming, and safe environment for customers.
Communicates clearly to ensure understanding.
Responds to complaints and concerns by resolving issues immediately whenever possible.
Organizes work process to accommodate customer needs, including internal customers and co-workers.
Works effectively with team to ensure customer service scores for work area meet/exceed targets.
Provides patient transport services using stretchers, wheelchairs, geri-charis, wheeled-bed or walking patient, completing routine transport within 15 minutes of receipt of page as observed by Supervisor.
Uses TeleTracking System delay codes to report any delays within 5-10 minutes of assignment of patient transports and calls TeleTracking System at the completion of all trips and accepts next assignment.
Uses the 3 identifiers to ensure the transport of the correct patient 100% of the time; notes and reports all discrepancies to charge nurse and to transport supervisor 100% of the time.
Admits and discharges patients from Nursing Units, main lobby, clinical areas, ER, Admitting and other areas as assigned 100% of the time, as observed by Supervisor. Follows discharge procedures as outlined in department policy and procedures for curbside services with patients.
Transports deceased patients to Morgue from Nursing Units as assigned by TeleTracking System as outlined in policy and procedures.
Follows policy to assist Emergency Room with the transport of deceased patients to the morgue.
Assists nursing staff as requested in transferring patients to and from bed, wheelchair, stretcher, etc.
Responsible for the returning of all stretchers, wheelchairs, and specimen carts to designated areas during and after the shift.
Ensures patient specimen pickups and deliveries are made as requested from all assigned units utilizing the electronic tracking system and adhering to the departments policy and procedures.
Demonstrates competency in transporting patients using ancillary medical equipment such as oxygen tanks, IV pumps, etc.
Cross-trained to perform specimen pickup from assigned areas using TeleTracking System and responds to Code Blue calls as needed. Ensures specimen tubes are labeled; if not, informs the charge nurse and/or nurse manager to rectify immediately.
Communicates effectively to inquiry from the units should there be questions pertaining to pickup of specimen.
Pickup of specimen (expectations for timely pickup and ER, ICU as STAT).
Ensures hand off communications is completed when transporting patients from patient care areas (from RN’s/nurses/technicians). Exchanges pertinent patient care information such as mobility status, fall risk status, infection control status, and need for oxygen upon transport.
Maintains a pleasant and positive public image and courteous communication with patients, visitors, staff, and other health care professionals.
Presents and introduces self in a professional manner at all times as observed by the Supervisor.
Utilizes and distributes wheelchairs and stretchers, implementing good body mechanics and adherence to Infection Control/Safety Standards.
Under the direction of department supervisor and/or nursing staff utilizes proper safety measures while transporting patients, specimens and/or other patient materials and supplies.
Utilizes gloves and other safety measures when transporting specimens. Utilizes side rails, and proper patient position while transporting as observed by Supervisor 100% of the time.
Provides proper notification on all unsafe equipment to System Dispatcher and Manager and checks before transporting patient 100% of the time.
Completes tour assignment by reallocating transport equipment to specific areas as assigned.
Practices and maintains good body mechanics during transfer and/or transport assignments, as noted by Supervisor 100% of the time.
Attends mandatory in-service training of physical therapy body mechanics course for proper safety and injury prevention.
Responsible for the replacement or repair of mishandled or lost equipment and/or accessories used for patient transport (e.g., equipment locks, pagers).
Maintains, cleans, and sanitizes all transport equipment as assigned or as needed to ensure proper working order. Performs preventive maintenance on all transport equipment through documentation of cleaning after each use; ensures placement of tagged repair request and immediate notification to Supervisor as required by policy and procedures.
Follows cleaning safety guidelines and use of proper protective clothing according to UH Infection Control guidelines, during cleaning assignment.
Cleans wheelchair and stretcher after every patient use per infection control guidelines, policy, and procedures.
Equipment: Wheelchairs and stretchers are returned to staging areas as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 2-4 years of recent customer service experience.
•Strong preference to individuals from a healthcare/medical background.
