    Job Title: Pharmacy Tech

     

    Department: Pharmacy

     

    Hours Per Week: 40 scheduled weekly hours

     

    Schedule: 8 hour shift, 8a-4p, 7a-3p, every third weekend

    SUMMARY:

    The Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in supporting pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of medications. This position is responsible for accurately filling prescriptions, maintaining inventory, managing patient records, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    + Makes regularly scheduled rounds to assigned nursing units/treatment areas in order to deliver completed medication orders and to pick-up requisitions/medication orders to be processed.

    + Utilizing data from the pharmacy computer system, selects/prepares medication for assigned patients in individual cassettes prior to the pharmacist's review and authorization for issue.

    + Delivers a complete set of patient medication cassettes to assigned nursing stations and returns empty or partially empty cassettes to the pharmacy for up-dating and subsequent re-delivery.

    + Reviews each replaced patient medication cassette upon delivery to determine the need for transfer of medications in multiple use packaging (e.g., tubes of liniment, eye drops, etc.) to the appropriate new cassette.

    + Conducts inventory of non-chargeable floor stock on assigned nursing units and brings up to established par levels.

    + Assists Pharmacist in the preparation of parenteral products, special dosage forms, the mixing of external preparations, etc. if needed.

    + Posts and charges, on a daily basis, all medications dispensed as part of the unit dose system, via pharmacy computer terminal.

    + Maintains statistical data on functions performed.

    + Contributes to the general maintenance of the department's inventory systems by making appropriate entries and conducting assigned inventories.

    + Assists in the training/orienting of new employees to selected aspects of the position's activities.

    + Assists pharmacists in the dispensing of drugs by:

    + Receiving written prescriptions; typing prescription labels;

    + Affixing the prescription label to the containers;

    + Getting drugs from stock and returning them to stock;

    + Getting prescription files and other manual records from storage and locating prescriptions;

    + Preparing manual records of dispensing for the signature or initials of the pharmacist.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Requires competence in basic pharmaceutical nomenclature (generic vs. proprietary names), related mathematical skills, and general pharmaceutical principles

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + High School Diploma

    UNION:

    CSEA - Civil Service Employees Association (MH)

     

    Note: Not all per diem roles are union eligible

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

    PAY RANGE:

    $18.92 - $25.58

     

    The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
