Job Title: Phlebotomist I - Henderson
Job Description
As a Phlebotomist I, your primary role will be to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups.
+ Collect specimens for drug screens, paternity tests, alcohol tests, etc.
+ Conduct blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
+ Properly explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, or other specimen collection in a courteous manner.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Understand and comply with all physicians' orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
+ Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct against script.
+ Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
+ Follow procedures specific to protocol to maintain the integrity of the specimen.
+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings and answer telephone inquiries.
+ Perform data entry of patient information accurately and timely.
+ Process billing information and collect payments when required.
+ Prepare all collected specimens for testing and analysis.
+ Maintain patient and specimen information logs.
+ Provide superior customer service to all patients.
+ Perform administrative and clerical duties as necessary.
+ Travel to additional sites when needed.
Essential Skills
+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed.
+ Minimum of 3 years' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
+ Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
+ Comfortable working under minimal supervision.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Previous experience as a phlebotomist with a track record in providing exceptional customer service.
+ Reliable transportation and clean driving record if applicable.
+ Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
+ Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.
Work Environment
The role is based in a Patient Service Center that sees up to 160 patients a day, ranging from pediatrics to geriatric patients. The work hours will be an 8 hour shift from 6 am to 4:30 pm. Training will be provided for a week or two with the training coordinator. This position requires a strong, independent phlebotomist with three or more years of experience.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr.
