Job Title: Design Engineer
Job Description
This position involves designing custom automated equipment, focusing primarily on the design phase. The role requires transforming the initial concept into a complete machine design, and working closely with customers to determine necessary components such as structure, brackets, mounts, cylinder size, valving, and force requirements.
Responsibilities
+ Design custom automated equipment for about 75%-80% of the time.
+ Collaborate with customers to identify and specify components needed for purchase.
+ Design structures, brackets, mounts, and determine cylinder size, valving, and force requirements.
+ Participate in project meetings to discuss tasks and deadlines after project approval.
+ Delegate duties and prioritize projects based on discussions with engineers and production.
+ Design and build custom automated assembly machines or upgrade existing customer machines.
+ Spend 25% of time on the floor assisting with the assembly and building of machines or work cells.
+ Support the design and development of automated systems primarily for the RV industry, with involvement in the steel and medical industries as well.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum of 5 years' experience in machine design.
+ Proficiency in Solidworks.
+ Experience in designing automated equipment/machines.
+ Experience in FEA (Finite Element Analysis).
+ Experience in mechanical engineering and project management.
"Nice to have" Qualifications
+ Engineering degree is preferred.
+ Project management experience is advantageous.
+ Experience working directly with customers is a plus.
Work Environment
The organization is a small team started by experienced engineers, focusing on manufacturing automation solutions.
The team consists of 25 people, including 6 engineers, and operates in a laid-back but productive environment.
The work week consists of 45 hours, and the dress code is casual, with jeans and hoodies being common attire unless there is a customer visit.
The role offers exposure across various industries, enhancing mechanical engineering skills through diverse projects. Employees are entitled to 5 days of PTO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $53.00/hr.
