    SUMMARY:

    + The Director, Safety Education Program oversees the Safety Education Program and supervises a team of Safety Education Program Specialists, promoting rail, bus, and pedestrian safety through public awareness campaigns and educational initiatives.

    + This position is responsible for providing administrative support, organizing internal and external safety-related events, managing program budgets, and ensuring the effectiveness of safety education efforts across various communities and NJ TRANSIT operations.

    ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

    + Lead the Safety Education Program and support Safety Education Program Specialists achieve their goals to promote rail, bus, and pedestrian safety through public awareness campaigns and educational initiatives across the New Jersey region.

    + Assist in organizing safety presentations at NJ TRANSIT, schools, and community groups, and attend events as needed.

    + Oversee the Safety Education Program budget, track program costs, and maintain accurate budget reporting, while negotiating for the provision of promotional and visual materials to reinforce transit safety messages.

    + Oversee the inventory of safety supplies, ensure the preparation of materials for internal and external outreach efforts, and foster relationships with key stakeholders - school administrators, local Boards of Education, Superintendents, and school principals

    + Analyze and prioritize locations for safety education coverage; prepare reports to track and monitor program progress. Periodically deliver safety presentations on an as-needed basis.

    + Act as NJ TRANSIT liaison with Operation Lifesaver, promoting parallel transit safety messages, and regularly evaluating presentation techniques for improvement.

    + Participates in overall department and division objectives. Assists organization with special activities, emergencies and other major service disruptions.

    + Oversee presentation schedules to ensure optimal geographical coverage, work to expand program reach, and drive growth to achieve program goals. Prepare reports and high-profile briefings for internal and external stakeholders.

    + Liaise with internal stakeholders, including but not limited to Communications, Marketing, to develop and enhance outreach strategies that support the goals of the Safety Education Program

    + Evaluate and measure the effectiveness of the Safety Education Program (SEP); work towards continuous improvement of SEP initiatives and complete special projects as assigned by the Sr. Director, Safety Training & Promotion.

    + This position supervises: 2 Sr. Safety Education Program Specialists; 1 Safety Education Program Specialist; 1 Sr. Safety Education Program and Community Outreach Specialist

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS :

    + Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Education, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field And Eight (8) years of experience in educational program development and/or public safety outreach.

    + Master’s degree in Safety Management, Education, or a related field is preferred but not required.

    + Additional training or coursework in public speaking, project management, or communications can be beneficial.

    KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

    + Proficiency in budget management, tracking program costs, and negotiating for resources.

    + Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

    + Experience in educational program development, including the creation of safety materials, lesson plans, and public outreach programs.

    + Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to coordinate training to meet compliance standards.

    + Flexibility to participate in or coordinate events and activities as needed.

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

    + Certifications in safety-related fields (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP)) are desirable.

    + Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) (desirable)

    + Incident Command System Training (ICS) (desirable)
