Job Focus Area:
This Education Consultant Supervisor is located within the Office of Teaching and Learning, Division of K-12 Numeracy, and reports to a classified Education Division Director. The LDOE’s Numeracy Division believes that all Louisiana students will have improved outcomes through high-quality instruction and interactions by an effective teacher supported by leaders and families. The ECS is responsible for implementing and coordinating activities associated with mathematics content, standards, professional development and instruction for grades K-12, managing a staff of Education Program Consultants specializing in mathematics, and serving as the division Chief of Staff. Activities related to this position include developing and/or reviewing high-quality curriculum and instructional materials; engaging district and school educators in the implementation of high-quality curriculum and teacher support structures; assisting in the management of teacher leader advisors and contractors whose work directly relates to K-12 mathematics; and serving as a state leader in mathematics.
Applicants with the following skills and experience are encouraged to apply:
Extensive previous leadership experience in math education, experience coordinating large-scale projects and working across complex systems, math content expertise and an educational background and/or content-related work experience in the area of math.
•Strong knowledge base in math content, Louisiana K-12 Student Standards for Mathematics, and in-depth understanding of the latest research in math education.
•At least five years of experience teaching and/or otherwise supporting students and educators from various backgrounds and with diverse needs.
•Strong oral and written communication skills, effective organizational skills, maximizing the use of technology, and strong project management and customer service skills.
•Ability to work as part of a team.
•Ability to engage in the observation and review implementation to refine strategy and plans through an ongoing improvement cycle.
•Experience in collaborating with multiple stakeholders to deliver a common and consistent message to the field in support of Louisiana’s academic strategy for computer science.
•Efficient and effective use of various software systems (Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms, etc.).
•Previous project management experience.
•Graduate-level degree in a program of study with a focus on mathematics education, math curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or similar.
Minimum Qualifications
Nine years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
Six years of full-time work experience plus six years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
A bachelor's degree plus six years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
An advanced degree plus five years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.

Approves the development, revision, implementation, and evaluation of current and long-range plans, rules, regulations, guidelines, and policies for multiple statewide programs in accordance with federal or state laws and policies.
Approves the design, development, and implementation of innovative educational programs and research projects on the basis of national and state reports, trends, economic conditions, future needs, educational research findings, and state and federal legislative or policy developments.
Recruits, interviews, and recommends approval for hiring personnel and evaluates performance of personnel.
Approves budgetary reports, records, and activities, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and other regulations, policies, and procedures for budgetary control and authorizes the allocation and expenditure of state, federal, and other funds to eligible recipients for implementation of all programs.
Testifies before state and national legislative committees and state, regional, and national hearings, including the state legislature and State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education on behalf of the department/division relative to identified educational issues.
Advises the classified division director of specific issues related to division programs and the progress of programs in meeting established goals and objectives and obtains concurrence on policy and procedure approvals or to advise local superintendents of education, other educators, and other persons outside the field of education on programs, policies, procedures, laws and regulations, and answers questions and assists in the resolution of education problems.
Make recommendations to the division director regarding mandated and discretionary programs and budgetary or personnel matters.
Researches educational issues, federal and state laws, and state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) policies to develop proposed legislation impacting education.
Represents the division director on key departmental committees working on departmental policies, discipline, accountability, technology, as well as interoffice matters.
Coordinates state and federal educational program activities of several units within and outside the division on a project basis.
Develops and recommends to the division director programmatic policy directives and procedural guidelines to local educational authorities.
Directs the administration or implementation of major elements of the state's reform model, including areas such as curriculum, assessment, or accountability components.
Coordinates the design, development, and piloting of education reform programs and research projects.

**Note regarding the advertised pay range: The Education Consultant series have a special entrance rate that is above the minimum hire rate for these positions. The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make over their career andnot the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire .
One position is available and it is located in Baton Rouge, La. The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office. This position will be filled by a current permanent classified Louisiana Department of Education employee. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected.
