Job Title: Dental Director
Responsible to: Chief Medical Officer
Job Summary: The Dental Director is a licensed dentist who provides direct patient care and serves as the clinical and administrative leader of the Baker Victory Dental Center, with a specialized focus on serving patients with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. This role ensures high-quality, person-centered, and accessible oral healthcare by directing clinical operations, guiding team development, and advancing standards of care in alignment with current best practices and regulatory requirements.
Essential Job Duties:
+ Provide direct patient care, including comprehensive and periodic examinations, including digital radiographic exposure/diagnosis to patients within the designated clinical settings.
+ Diagnosis and referral of oral conditions requiring specialty evaluation.
+ Treatment of oral conditions requiring restorative care, extractions, endodontic and prosthetic care as determined by Delineation of Privileges and NYS Practice Act
+ Triage and treatment of emergency situations, as appropriate for the clinical setting
+ Completion of treatment logs, laboratory prescriptions, quality assurance records, and documentation of delivered services
+ Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and evidence-based practices.
+ Supervise and mentor dental providers and support staff; oversee recruitment, onboarding, and training of dental hygienists, assistants, and administrative personnel.
+ Serve as the lead clinician for complex treatment planning, especially for patients requiring behavioral accommodations, sedation, or specialized referrals.
+ Provide strategic input and collaborate with agency leadership to align dental operations with broader organizational goals.
+ Monitor clinical quality indicators and lead performance improvement initiatives, particularly those that improve access and care delivery for the special needs population.
+ Work with clinic leadership to manage scheduling, staffing ratios, patient flow, and resource allocation to optimize productivity and patient satisfaction.
+ Participate in interdepartmental planning with medical, and behavioral health leadership to provide holistic care.
+ Treat everyone with respect by putting the patient and family first and respond to the patient’s needs in a timely fashion; Model the OLVHS agency values of integrity, respect, accountability, adaptability and teamwork.
+ Comply with all federal and state regulations and agency policies pertaining to HIPAA, false claims, whistleblower policies and all others
+ Oversee the dental department’s annual budget, capital planning, and purchasing of equipment and supplies.
+ Dentists are expected to meet established productivity standards to ensure the financial health of the center.
+ Stay current with trends in special care dentistry, including emerging technologies, behavioral management techniques, and community partnerships.
+ Represent program at annual Board meetings and responsible for creating all Board program reports.
+ Any other duties as assigned by Chief Medical Officer
Skills:
• Demonstrated experience and passion for treating individuals with intellectual, developmental, or
physical disabilities
•Some experience in Pediatric dentistry preferred
•Strong leadership and decision-making skills; able to work independently and collaboratively
•Prior experience with EMR systems such as NextGen, Eaglesoft, or Dentrix strongly preferred
•Effective interpersonal and communication skills; bilingual skills a plus
•Strong understanding of Medicaid and special population billing procedures highly desirable
•CPR/BLS certification required; sedation or hospital dentistry credentials are a plus
Minimum Education Required:
DDS of DMD from an accredited dental school
Minimum Experience Required:
Minimum 1 year of clinical experience; at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred
License/Registration/ Certifications Required:
Active and unrestricted license to practice in the State of New York
