Job Summary

We are currently seeking a **Systems Engineer** within the Maritime & Spectrum Solutions Division. This position is in the **Virginia Beach, VA area** .

Within Battelle's Defense & Material Solutions Business Line, the Maritime & Spectrum Solutions Division has a long history of working on maritime applications and, in general, supporting DoD, commercial, and intelligence community customers who are interested in research and development and life cycle engineering. The ideal candidate will support several projects to deliver cost, schedule, and technical performance. These projects include research, engineering, prototype development, and system integration. Additional tasks will include managing R&D efforts, assisting with division plans, participating actively in business development, and contributing to division growth.

Responsibilities

+ Build and document a transition framework that shows roles and responsibilities, gates and timelines to move a project out of Science and Technology/Research and Development, and into each Program of Record.

+ Establish a repeatable process and workflow to allow for continuous situational awareness across all entities of technology development priorities, initiatives, and engagements.

+ Frequent engagements with NSWG4, NSWG8, NSW HQ, Program Management Shops and, specifically, the Maritime Technology Office to identify requirements, technology development efforts and future strategic initiatives.

+ Advising the CCME Acquisition Program Manager on NSWG4 requirements relating to Operational Deficiency Reports, Special Operations Rapid Requirements Documents, and Capability Development Documents.

+ Supports project teams composed of science and technology functional experts to support the core business of research and development and life cycle engineering for maritime applications.

+ Performs complex assignments by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for analysis of requirements and systems performance.

+ Analyzes and interprets data collected.

+ Prepares technical reports and makes presentations to client, both formal and informal.

+ Conducts and/or leads small technical projects or tasks of technical projects.

+ May provide technical direction to and coordinate the efforts of engineers and technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects within time and budget constraints.

+ Assists with proposal efforts. May prepare technical sections of proposals.

+ Builds relationships with internal and external clients and presents research results. Communicates with client with regard to the schedule and quality of deliverables.

+ Contributes to IR&D studies.

+ Supports business development efforts led by others and secures follow-on work.

+ May assist with the coordination of and participation in Battelle-sponsored conferences.

+ May participate in scientific conferences, peer review panels, and increases company visibility through publications.

+ Oversees, mentors and trains lower-level staff.

Key Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in management, science or engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering with 5+ years of experience or masters degree in related field with 2 years of experience or PhD; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in related field.

+ Proven ability to grasp a wide variety of technical disciplines to integrate into a system level solution and to apply to a variety of customer needs.

+ Excellent business acumen and ability to identify and resolve problems and issues effectively and efficiently.

+ Proven ability to lead others in the achievement of goals, demonstrated through roles of increasing responsibility over time that demonstrate greater span of control over teams and excellence driven by initiative, innovation and vision.

+ Demonstrated success ensuring that a wide range of different activities (technical, business development, and administrative) are done on time and at a high quality.

+ Excellent oral, presentation, and written communication skills.

+ Demonstrated excellence in building and supporting a team.

+ Capable of traveling domestically up to 25% of the time.

+ **Sole US Citizen with a current DoD Top Secret clearance.**

Preferred Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in management, science or engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering with 10+ years prior work experience in project management and/or personnel management.

+ Experience with Naval Special Warfare Groups and Headquarters

+ Experience with USSOCOM SOF AT&L, PEO-Maritime

+ Experience in Major Capability & Urgent Capability Acquisition

+ Experience with DoD maritime systems and associated customers

+ Active USCG License

+ Active TS/SCI Security Clearance & CI Poly
