Description of Job
This position is directly responsible for the Life Safety Program including all audits, certifications, and other ancillary responsibilities at all 40+ Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi) physical locations around the state. This position assures compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) Standards, accepted federal, state, and local fire codes, health standards, safety standards, hazardous materials regulations, other recognized standards, and departmental policy and procedures.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
+ Oversees the life safety program for a wide variety of industries including licensed plate manufacturing, garment production, dairies, leather work, fisheries, furniture manufacturing, auto body shops, fleet management, and others to address accident prevention, risk assessment, loss control, and accident investigation;
+ Conducts regular site visits to each industry plant; liaises with shop supervisors and conducts onsite inspections;
+ Consults with leadership team in all areas that are deficient; advise and direct how to become compliant;
+ Serves as ACA coordinator; enlists and directs staff participation in maintaining CCi accreditation and directs efforts of shop managers in order to meet ACA compliance;
+ Collects, compiles, drafts, and analyzes information; collaborates with supervisors and recommends plans of action to meet ACA standards;
+ Manages CCi ACA policy review process of all policies impacting operations and makes revisions and/or proposes changes to policies and procedures;
+ Conducts thorough inspections throughout all areas of CCi to determine if safety guidelines are being followed and that chemical and tool inventory/issues are being appropriately monitored according to ACA and CDOC guidelines;
+ Ensures compliance of Federal, State, CDOC, and CCi regulations and Operations Memorandums as they apply to plant operations, plant management, OSHA. Life Safety, Hazmat, ADA, fire extinguishers, and first aid equipment and supplies, ensuring safety of staff and offenders;
+ Identify hazards and continually assess the risk of accident or injury. Advocate prevention and encourage staff and offenders to report hazards;
+ Conduct safety investigations of reported life safety related incidents to include safety rule violations, worksite injuries, hazardous material spills, electrical shock incidents and near misses;
+ In conjunction with Agribusiness Manager, inspects areas occupied by animals to ensure health and safety compliance;
+ Reviews layout designs; negotiates with architects, engineers and code approval regulating bodies for existing and new plant facilities;
+ Reviews projects and project budgets and plans for future needs;
+ Prepares and analysis budget for all plant requirements and replacement needs;
+ Schedules maintenance for plant and manufacturing equipment;
+ Prepares and plans projects, contract agreements, project directives, and other documents as needed;
+ Develop and conduct training on areas such as fire safety, evacuation, worker safety, hazardous materials, and safety equipment;
+ Travelling to other locations within the State of Colorado;
+ Other duties as assigned.

+ Seven (7) years of professional work experience in a life safety field, occupational health, or professional inspections in a safety or sanitation environment. This experience must include managing and coordinating an accreditation or auditing program.

+ Three (3) years of professional work experience in a life safety field, occupational health, or professional inspections in a safety or sanitation environment. This experience must include managing and coordinating an accreditation or auditing programAND Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, business, occupational health, health administration, industrial hygiene, public health, industrial arts, industrial relations, hazardous materials, risk management or a closely related field.Unofficial transcripts showing the college/university name, student name, degree, and date conferred/awarded must be submitted with the application in order to receive credit.
Life Safetyis defined as the protection of people and property based on building construction, protection and occupancy that minimizes the effect of fire and related hazards.
Occupational Healthis defined as the identification and control of the risks arising from physical, chemical, and other workplace hazards in order to establish and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
Substitutions:
+ Additional experience in the above mentioned areas which provided the same kind, amount and level of knowledge acquired in the required education, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree.
+ A master's or doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in the fields listed above may be substituted for the bachelor's degree and one year of experience.
+ A bachelor's degree (or higher) that is not in a closely related field of study, may substitute up to 60 semester hours of core coursework on a year-for-year basis.
