The Barnacle Historic State Park is looking for a self-motivated park service professional to fill an OPS Museum Registrar position. The applicant must possess good landscaping skills, exceptional visitor service, and a strong work ethic. The applicant will work with other members of the team, or independently.
This is a temporary OPS position which does not include insurance or leave benefits. Position is dependent upon funding renewal each fiscal year.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include:
Cataloguing new accessions to Collections Catalogue
Scanning archival documents
Conducting research
Maintaining museum storage
Researching and writing grants as applicable
Creating customized storage for museum artifacts
Monitoring condition of Collections; recommending conservation treatments as needed
Conducting miscellaneous tasks related to care, documentation, and exhibition of artifacts
Performing routine administrative tasks
Working with staff and volunteers in maintaining historic house and cleaning artifacts
Assisting Manager and Park Services Specialist with Furnishings Plan for The Barnacle, Munroe’s Boathouse and Marjory Stoneman Douglas House
Conducting occasional special interest tours of the properties
Promoting through Social Media
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Must be able to communicate with the public
+ Must be able to climb stairs and perform physical labor (safely lift and carry 40 pounds)
+ Computer and office skills required
+ Must be fluent in English; Spanish a plus
+ High school diploma required; college degree preferred
+ Valid driver license
+ Willingness to learn
Must have one or more of the following skills:
+ Digital photography
+ Art/Graphic Design
+ Sewing
+ Picture framing
Work Schedule:
Part-time (15-24 hours per week). Variable – minor holidays, weekends and some evenings. Immediate start date.
Desired Majors:
Art, Computer, History, Interior Design, Library Science, but other majors will be considered.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Valid driver license
Position of Special Trust Requirement :
This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.
Pay:
$15.00 per hour

The Barnacle, one of the oldest houses in Miami-Dade in its original location. Built in 1891, The Barnacle was home to Ralph Middleton Munroe, renowned yacht designer and community activist. Now a historic house museum and one of Florida’s award-winning State Parks, The Barnacle offers a glimpse into Old Florida and the Era of the Bay. There are three historic buildings on site and an extensive historic library and collection of artifacts belonging to the Munroes. Additionally, this Park manages Marjory Stoneman Douglas’s 1926 cottage, also in Coconut Grove. Douglas, a journalist, author, and pioneering environmentalist who helped defend the Florida Everglades, was also an advocate of racial equality and for women’s voting rights. Douglas wroteEverglades: River of Grassin 1947.
