    New York eHealth Collaborative – Cloud DevOps Engineer (Database Concentration)

     

    New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the New York State Department of Health to improve healthcare by collaboratively leading, connecting, and integrating health information exchange across the State.

     

    Founded in 2006 by healthcare leaders, NYeC works to help New York State achieve the Triple Aim of improving the patient experience of care, delivering better health outcomes, and reducing costs. On behalf of the State, NYeC leads the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY), a network connecting healthcare providers statewide, develops policies and standards that support the utilization of health technologies, and assists healthcare providers in adopting and effectively using electronic health records.

    Position Summary:

    NYeC is seeking a Cloud DevOps Engineer with at least 3 years’ experience in building and operating cloud-based platforms as a service application. The candidate must have experience managing cloud infrastructure with a concentration in our Cloud Databases. Additional experience with IAM, SQL, NoSQL Databases is desired. This position reports to the DevOps Manager. This role can play a part in shaping our Cloud infrastructure and be a part of a talented technology team working in a mission driven organization. This position reports to the DevOps Manager and can be operated out of the Albany, NY or Manhattan, NY office.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    + Designs, implements, and maintains our cloud environments (AWS) including VPCs, AWS Workspaces, AWS RDS, DocumentDB, AWS NOSQL Databases, serverless services and VPCs.

    + Building and setting up new environments as well as microservice infrastructure using AWS CloudFormation and/or SDK.

    + Collaborates with IT leadership and infosec team ensuring appropriate controls are integrated into all DevOps solutions and CICD Pipeline to meet policy standards and industry best practices.

    + Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves technical issues.

    + Proactively monitor Database traffic and utilization to discover and prevent systematic and or performance issues to optimize the DevOps landscape.

    + Writes Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Industry standard tools and services. (CloudFormation and SDK).

    + Setup & maintain CI/CD pipelines with application team. (BitBucket Pipelines, CloudFormation/SDK).

    + Work on finding alternative solutions as needed in our cloud environment.

    + Build & maintain the test environments in AWS.

    + Build automated deployment systems in AWS to increase the pace and consistency of releases.

    + Automate & maintain the release cycles for the team and track changes to QA, staging and prod environment.

    + Participates in L2-L3 support for any reported business critical issues after hours.

    + Works closely with other infrastructure team members to provide adequate back up and work on tasks as needed.

    + Work with network vendor to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

    + Work with InfoSec on managing alerts and logs for cloud environment.

    + Other ad hoc duties as assigned.

    Experience and Skills Required:

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required.

    + 3+ years of experience managing an AWS cloud landscape that includes a mix of IaaS and PaaS.

    + Experience with industry standard network monitoring, management, and packet analysis tools for network/application performance tuning/troubleshooting.

    + Experience with UNIX systems.

    + Working experience and knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes and CloudFormation.

    + Familiarity with networking architecture (e.g Load Balancing, TCP/IP, Routing).

    + Experience with monitoring stacks like DataDog, AWS CloudWatch and AWS Flow Logs.

    + Experience using version control systems (Git).

    + Good working knowledge of BASH and/or Linx Environment.

    + Ability to work within a security framework such as NIST, HITRUST, ISO desired.

    + Capable of interacting internally with team members, and externally with vendors, in a professional and collaborative way.

    + Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adaptable to change and adhering to policy and procedure; change control, ticketing system, team communication.

    + Excellent communication and writing skills.

    Preferred Skills:

    + Experience in deploying and maintaining AWS Cloud infrastructure using CloudFormation and/or SDK

    + Certification in AWS cloud, DevOps, or related technology (AWS Developer Associate, AWS DevOps Professional, AWS DBA, AWS Solutions Architect Associate) highly desirable.

    + Experience working with cloud-native big data platforms such as AWS and Data Lake as a service.

    + Experience working with cloud-native programming, analytics, and modeling tools such as CloudFormation, SDK, Python, JSON.

    + Healthcare system integration, including HL7, FHIR, and EDI interface.

    Expectations of Employees:

    + Employees work a hybrid in-office schedule (at either our Manhattan, NY or Albany, NY office and then remotely). Barring specific exemptions, team members are expected to work from the office on a regular schedule determined by the COO and on other days specified by their manager (no less than 1 day per week in the office). This schedule is subject to change.

    + NYeC supports work happening across New York State. From time to time our team members must visit other parts of the state. The most common requirement is for a New York City based team member to travel to Albany and vice versa.

     

    We consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may cause compensation to vary depending on your skills, experience, qualifications, and home office location (Manhattan, NY vs. Albany, NY). The annual base salary range for this role for an Albany, NY based candidate is $80,000 to $95,000. The annual base salary range for this role for a Manhattan, NY based candidate is $95,000 to $115,000. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, NYeC will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with NYeC.
