    LiveWell: Center for Health Promotion and Prevention has an outstanding opportunity for individuals interested in working with students one on one as well as within events and programs hosted by LiveWell. The **Student Needs Navigator** is a full-time position and will work in LiveWell: Center Prevention & Health Promotion, within the Division of Student Life. LiveWell empowers individuals with the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions about their health and well-being while at UW and beyond. LiveWell uses both the expertise of professional staff and passion of Peer Health Educators to provide evidenced-based health promotion, prevention, and early intervention services. This position reports and is supervised by the Director of UW LiveWell.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Student Needs Navigator will focus on student support, collaboration, and resource connection by providing one on one services to UW students in a case management capacity. This role will provide support for students experiencing basic-needs insecurities, reviewing existing resources and supports and making referrals to services both within the community and on campus. They will also be responsible for managing and growing our existing LiveWell Kits Program that includes creating, managing and distributing a wide variety of kits suited to different wellbeing needs like: mental health support, alcohol and other drug harm reduction, stress management, safer sex, etc. In addition to the LiveWell Kits, the Student Needs Navigator will work closely with LiveWell Events and Programs to help coordinate various LiveWell health promotion and prevention events on campus. Additionally, this position will assist in developing strategic awareness campaigns that increase visibility of resources and access for students on campus.

     

    This position will work closely with other UW LiveWell Staff, the UW Food Pantry, HFS, Champions Program, and other campus partners who play a role in student health and well-being.

     

    The Student Needs Navigator will work closely with the LiveWell Director and Assistant Director on developing programs and services as well as collaborate with other LiveWell team members and campus departments/units.

     

    **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Basic Needs Promotion & Prevention Programming

    + Develop and implement programs on campus that respond to students basic needs from a health promotion and prevention lens.

    + Manage the LiveWell Health Promotion Kits Program (Party with a Plan, Sexy Time, Paws & Relax), including ordering, inventory tracking, distribution, etc. Expand and grow this program in collaboration with other LiveWell staff.

    + Collaborate with key campus partners for expanded programming reach and impact.

    + Acquire and manage partnerships with on and off campus partners to build resources we can offer students struggling with basic needs.Direct Case Management:

    + Provide a low barrier intake process for students that includes appropriate assessment and presentation of campus support and community resources available.

    + Provide students with referrals to campus partners and supportive resources related to needs to the best of the University’s ability and within the parameters of the higher education system.

    + Assist students in accessing public benefits, when appropriate and existing emergency assistance programs such as those funded by RCW 28B.50.295, and other community resources.

    + Support all students’ access to Basic Food assistance and the Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET) program, and support the reduction of student food insecurity.Student Needs Development and Administration:

    + Review and update methods to identify likely low-income and food-insecure students and conduct communications and outreach methods to promote opportunities for benefits assistance.

    + Identify, create, and facilitate programs, events, or workshops that teach students the skills needed to effectively manage their finances and resources for college and beyond. This could include workshops on topics such as financial literacy or managing student loan/medical debt, etc.

    + Identify opportunities and partnerships with community-based organizations to help holistically support students' basic needs, from referrals to resource partnerships.

    + Write and distribute annual reports that include but are not limited to outcomes from implementation of UW Student Needs Navigator, including findings and activities from the UW Hunger-Free and Basic Needs Campus Strategic Plan.

    + Participate in ongoing evaluation, recommendations, and revision of campus efforts to ensure appropriate and effective support for prioritizing student basic needs.

    + Actively participate as a member of the statewide Student Needs Navigator Cohort, including attending training and meetings. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

    + Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Health, Psychology, Nutrition/Food Systems or related field and 3 years of experience serving students in a higher education setting OR equivalent education/experience **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

    + Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical abilities, and de-escalation skills.

    + Demonstrated experience managing detail intensive situations autonomously and effectively.

    + Experience working with diverse populations, specifically individuals who are experiencing basic needs insecurities.

    + Experience working as a part of a team and in a collaborative environment.

    + Demonstrated commitment to promoting a climate of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.

    + Experience developing collaborative relationships across multiple entities.

    + Demonstrated experience in interpreting, reviewing, and applying program specific policies, procedures, and regulations.

    + Demonstrated flexibility and ability to accommodate multiple stakeholders with various interests and needs.

    + Knowledge of circumstances and barriers encountered by underrepresented populations.

    + Budget management and reconciliation in compliance with funding requirements for expenditures.

    + Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

    + Strong planning and project management ability.

    + Using common software systems such as MS Office 365.
