    Job Summary

    The Associate Director, Patient Food Service is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Room Service Call Center and CBORD/Systems operational units in Patient Food and Nutrition Services (PFANS).

    Responsibilities*

    Operational Leadership

     

    + Directs the Room Service Call Center, which processes >50,000 call pers month.

    + Directs the processing of guest and non-admitted patient meals.

    + Directs the procurement, quality control, and delivery of oral nutrition supplements and enteral nutrition formulas.

    + Directs the processing of charges patient meal and other patient food services.

    + Directs menu management functions.

    + Directs CBORD functions, including database management, Master Service Agreement renewal and maintenance, system security, system optimization, and remedy/enhancement requests.

     

    Human Resources Management

     

    + Oversees all HR functions including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, competency assessment, training, and development of staff for over thirty (30) employees including exempt, non-exempt, bargained for, and non-bargained for staff.

    + Directly supervises food service managers and CBORD application programmers.

    + Conducts performance evaluations and manages disciplinary actions, as necessary.

    + Directs, coaches and mentors, managerial subordinates.

    + Ensures compliance with institutional HR policies and procedures.

    + Promotes a positive and inclusive work environment aligned with institutional values and initiatives.

     

    Compliance and Quality Assurance

     

    + Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory agency requirements.

    + Develops, revises, implements, and monitors compliance with policies and procedures.

    + Monitors outcomes and adjust processes to ensure evidence-based practices and improve employee and patient satisfaction.

    + Benchmarks for continuous quality improvement.

    + Designs customer service programs that successfully safety standards including use of double patient identifiers, therapeutic diet compliance, hand hygiene, compliance with infection prevention and suicide precautions, and glycemic management.

    + Pursues technological advances that enhance efficiency in Patient Food Service operations.

     

    Fiscal Stewardship

     

    + Plans and monitors fiscal compliance for an annual budget.

    + Directs and oversees major capital projects for food service systems software, facility renovations, and new construction.

    + Plans and executes capital and non-capital budget purchases.

    + Directs the preparation of unit operational budget and manages unit financial performance.

    + Participates in establishing departmental financial objectives.

    + Oversees process for billing/charging units, programs.

     

    Strategic Planning and Collaboration

     

    + Represents PFANS on UM Health committees and task forces.

    + Develops short- and long-term unit strategic plans. Aligns unit goals with those of the institution.

    + Actively contributes to departmental strategic planning.

    + Supports the education and training of future nutrition and dietetic professionals.

    + Supports institutional mission and initiatives including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

    + Collaborates with staff, leaders, and customers within and outside of PFANS to ensure smooth and efficient operation, high levels of service, and effective communication.

    Education

    + Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, food service administration, or related fields granted by an accredited college or university.

    + Minimum of three years of hospital foodservice experience.

    + Minimum of three years management experience.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Master's degree in nutrition, dietetics, business administration, health care administration, or related fields granted by an accredited college or university.

    + Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

    + Working knowledge and understanding of departmental and institutional policies and procedures.

    Under FLSA, incumbents in this position meet the criteria for exempt status.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
