    **New Position to Begin** 8/11/2025

    Details

The University of Utah’s Quest Academic Learning Community, which primarily serves entering undergraduate students, seeks an instructor to teach courses in the Fall and Spring semesters and serve as an organizer for the Global Quest area. Subject to budgetary approval, the appointment will begin in the Fall of 2025, with annual renewal and/or expansion of the assignment possible.

The mission of Quest is to support student success by helping students successfully transition to the University, learn skills and tools necessary for success in higher education, build a sense of belonging at the University of Utah with connections across campus, and move students on the path of major declaration and degree pathway confirmation. Quest courses are single semester stand-alone courses taken most often in the student’s first year at the University. Quest includes four integrated partners within their courses (Academic Librarians, Academic and Major Advisors, Student Success Coaches, and Career Coaches) to offer a high impact learning experience.

All Quest courses meet University Baccalaureate and General Education requirements and focus on the General Education Reason and Act Ethically Learning Outcomes to grapple with the ethical dimensions of problem solving and action. Course sections are currently capped at 24 students and are highly interactive with special experiences such as research symposia, team projects, and common read experiences included.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in their field. Candidates should have a record of excellent and innovative teaching. Successful candidates will be committed to working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment and to enhancing first year and undergraduate education and success. Experience with learning abroad programs and international education is preferred.

This position will commence with a two-year appointment term. Continuation beyond this initial period will be based on teaching evaluations, course reviews, and program needs. Instructors begin teaching in Quest as Assistant Professor (Lecturer) and may be appointed to and promoted within Lectureship ranks after 5 years of teaching.

    Responsibilities:

The instructor will teach two sections of Quest courses each Fall and Spring semester. These two sections will be typically limited to Global Quest students, but exact assignment and student population depends on enrollment and program needs. Course descriptions are available on the Quest website.

The instructor will also serve as the instructor of record for the University of Utah’s Global Career Accelerator course each Fall and Spring semester. The University of Utah is partnering with Podium Education to offer this fully online program. The Global Career Accelerator enhances the undergraduate degree by allowing undergraduate students to build intercultural skills and real-world experience by working on company projects alongside peers from around the world. The instructor will also serve this role each Summer semester and receive one month of summer salary pay.

In addition to teaching their assigned courses and holding weekly office hours, Quest instructors are expected to serve 25% of their time in program service, including attending Quest faculty meetings and events, serving on faculty and university committees, working with Quest students in Leadership Intern and peer mentor roles, working with the integrated partners assigned to their courses, engaging in professional development activities, and other program service.
