About the role
Responsible for underwriting applications by evaluating and selecting risks in accordance with established underwriting guidelines, standards of quality, quantity, and Federal/State legislation. Responsible for analyzing and resolving complex situations while providing assistance to customers, staff, management, and other departments.
Key Accountabilities:
+ Processes, reviews, analyzes, and makes informed underwriting decisions using established guidelines on 70-80 new / increase applications daily. Ensures compliance with Federal and State Legislative and regulatory statues.
+ Communicates effectively with customers and associates both verbally and in writing. Handles incoming calls and emails by investigating and resolving inquiries or concerns in a professional manner and with minimal supervision.
+ Handles delegated services issues independently and ensures timely resolution for operational efficiency.
+ Participates in projects related to system enhancements, production issues, or new products.
+ Assists in cross-training of team members and assists with preparing feedback for trainees.
+ Other duties as needed/assigned to ensure goals are met.
Minimum Requirements:
+ High School Diploma or GED with 2-4 years of work experience.
+ Ability to analyze data, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations to make risk-based decisions. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
+ High attention to detail and accuracy.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
+ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred:
+ 1-3 years of experience in underwriting or a related insurance role.
+ High knowledge of medical terminology.
+ Experience working high volume, complex accounts.
The compensation range for this role is (based on the corporate location in Lake Forest, Illinois):
$24.38 - $35.23 per hour
The final salary offer will be determined based on factors such as location, qualifications, experience, skill set, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for bonus. We understand that compensation is an important factor when considering a new opportunity, and we strive to provide a competitive salary within the market.
