    The Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant (OCCA) will utilize medical and administrative skills to provide support to patients. Ideal candidates need to be comfortable working independently and can support high volume patients/caregivers. Caregivers in this role will play a vital part in providing care to patients through the expansion of our Neurological Institute. This location will be the first hub for neurological care outside of Main Campus.

     

    This role provides foundational experience and skills to continue development and growth in your healthcare career.

     

    A caregiver in this role works variable shifts from 7:30 a.m. -- 4 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. -- 5 p.m.

    A caregiver who excels in this role will:

    + Complete the rooming process, to include but not limited to vitals, height, weight, and completion of intake questions and document and report abnormal findings to RN or LIP.

    + Collect patient specimens, perform Point of Care Testing, and prepare specimens for transport to lab.

    + Prepare patient for exams, tests and procedures and assist with exams, treatments and procedures using sterile technique as applicable.

    + Assist with procedures such as EKG, Holter monitor application, pulse oximetry, hearing and vision screening, and disinfection and sterilization.

    + Perform patient treatments as directed, to include the application of heat or cold, simple sterile dressing changes, and application and removal of casts, braces and splints.

    + Review printed instructions with patients.

    + Assist with wound care under the direction of the LIP.

    + Document in the electronic health record and assist with management of in-baskets and closure of care gaps.

    + Assist with setting up the clinic for daily operations and closing clinic in accordance with departmental guidelines.

    + Stock supplies and linens as applicable. Clean, monitor expiration dates and restock dressing supply cart, check AED units and oxygen tanks, and empty needle boxes using appropriate safety measures.

    + Maintain all designated work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

    + Assist in regulatory and safety monitoring and compliance audits as directed.

    + Collaborate with members of the healthcare team to promote the delivery of patient care and the overall functioning of the department.

    + Participate in department meetings and perform duties in an independent and assertive manner under the direction of an RN and/or LIP.

    + Initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.

    + Perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, patient outreach and patient registration.

    Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

    + High school diploma or GED

    + Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) within new hire period

    + Minimum of one year of recent healthcare experience in a hospital, ambulatory, homecare, assistant living, nursing home or long-term care setting required (additional formal training or education may substitute for some or all stated experience)

    + Ability to read, write and speak English and follow oral and written instructions

    + Understanding of human anatomy sufficient to perform job duties

    + Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities

    + Basic knowledge of math

    Physical Requirements:

    + Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

    + Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
