    Baystate Health is seeking a **Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)/Director, Patient Care Services** to join the leadership team at **Baystate Noble Hospital** in Westfield, MA. The CNO will provide leadership in the development of strategies and systems that support the implementation of appropriate patient care models to promote patient-centered and cost-effective care while advancing the practice of nursing. Reporting to the Baystate Noble Hospital President, the CNO will collaborate with the health care team and health system colleagues to promote a consistent standard of care across the continuum of services. This role will indirectly report to the Baystate Health Chief Nurse Executive to ensure alignment in nursing leadership, practice, education, and professional development.

     

    The ideal candidate will have proven experience in leading high performing and engaged clinical teams, demonstrate enthusiasm for leading through change, have the ability to integrate theoretical and experiential knowledge with findings from the professional literature to plan and implement a high-quality clinical care model that is aligned with the needs of the community. Ability to leads strategic planning and operational management efforts to develop and sustain a care delivery model that spans the continuum of care.

     

    The CNO/Director of Patient Care Services creates an environment that promotes learning, innovation in practice and accountability for decision making for all staff. They are responsible for talent management through the effective selection, development and evaluation of leaders who support the values and strategic direction of the Hospital and Baystate Health. They foster an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery and create an environment that values diversity and promotes respect. The CNO/Director, Patient Care Services develops a master staffing plan that accommodates the dynamic environment and promotes flexibility through cross training across functions.

     

    The CNO/Director, Patient Care Services organizes the division to promote outcome driven effective care and consistently advocates for quality driven programs to enhance the standard of care, building effective teams to achieve outcomes.

    Job Responsibilities:

    **1)** Collaborates to effectively direct the implementation of the service line strategies and programs consistent with overall health system goals and objectives that improve the efficiency and quality of care delivered and meet identified program outcomes on the adult patient care units. Executes systems and process improvements in collaboration with other department heads that address variances in performance to organizational goals. Creates a top decile care delivery model inclusive of quality, safety, satisfaction, engagement, and fiscal stewardship. In partnership with physician leaders, guides performance improvement initiatives within service lines to impact the quality and safety of care delivered. Creates and sustains an environment conducive to excellence in patient care and patient satisfaction. Oversees the development of the operating budget and capital requests for the department and maintains a cost-effective patient care environment.

    **2)** Develops strategies to improve throughput and patient flow in the service line. Provides leadership in partnership with service line directors, physician leaders, managers, and staff to develop a positive work environment in assigned departments. Efficient and effective development of administrative systems and processes to facilitate service-oriented operational management of assigned programs. Leadership in creating efficient and effective linkages and alliances with colleagues across Baystate Health to facilitate service-oriented care for adult in patients. Oversees assigned departments' adherence to state and federal regulations including JC and DPH.

    **3)** Develops strategy and systems to improve patient experience and patient satisfaction within the service line.

    **4)** Works with their leadership team to create a positive work atmosphere that includes the principles of collaboration and teamwork resulting in a satisfying work environment for the service. Supports recruitment, retention, and work life strategies for the service working in close collaboration with HR to provide a stable and satisfied workforce capable of meeting the organizational goals and objectives for the organization. Ensures the effective selection, development and evaluation of direct reports and staff in assigned departments. Utilizes the organizational structure to foster teamwork and enable managers and employees to work together toward a common objective consistent with the mission of the health system. Identifies leadership talent and implements strategies to foster development.

    **5)** Coordinates budget development (operating and capital) for patient care services areas. Monitors, identifies budget variances, and works with leadership to respond effectively to variances. Leads initiatives to redesign processes that optimize cost, quality, and efficiencies. Leads initiatives to redesign and improve throughput and capacity within the service line.

    Requirements

    + RN licensed in the state of MA

    + Masters Degree Nursing

    + 5 years nursing leadership experience.

    + 3 years of relevant clinical experience, preferably in a community hospital setting.

    + Accomplished clinical leader with demonstrated experience in the key areas of accountability.
