Engineering Leader - Hazardous Locations

This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week onsite in Northbrook, IL.
Team Leadership & Development
+ Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
+ Manage performance, set clear goals, and provide regular feedback and career guidance.
+ Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
+ Support both local and remote team members, ensuring alignment and collaboration.
Project & Resource Management
+ Implement and execute capacity and capability planning under the guidance of the Engineering Manager.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional leads and customers to understand project scope and technical needs.
+ Assign resources effectively to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery.
+ Delegate and support Project Handlers in establishing appropriate test programs.
Customer Engagement & Support
+ Build strong relationships with customers to understand their needs and provide proactive solutions.
+ Gather and respond to customer feedback, coaching your team to do the same.
+ Support sales by understanding the project pipeline and identifying opportunities for improvement.
+ Provide technical guidance and engineering judgment to resolve issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
Process Improvement & Compliance
+ Drive process improvements to achieve financial and operational goals.
+ Ensure compliance with UL policies, procedures, and quality standards.
+ Lead or participate in initiatives to enhance business performance and customer experience.
Strategic & Cultural Leadership
+ Champion UL’s mission, vision, and values in all interactions.
+ Promote and lead change initiatives, transformation efforts, and cultural enhancements.
+ Collaborate across the UL matrix to build strong, flexible, and global networks.
+ University degree (equivalent to a Bachelors degree) in Business Administration, Management, Engineering or related field.
+ 5+ years of experience in Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) preferred.
+ 1-3 years of leadership experience preferred.
+ Lean Sigma Green Belt or Lean Leadership Training, Gage R& R experience or equivalent preferred.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of how decisions impact business results, working with a diverse team and planning and thinking strategically.
+ Demonstrates the ability to manage employee performance using performance expectations and goals and responding to employee relations issues.
+ Demonstrates the ability to lead in a Lean Sigma organization.
+ Demonstrates the ability to make the complex simple and present information in a concise, relevant and powerful manner.
+ Demonstrates the ability to analyze and interpret analyses, data, process documents and plans.
+ Demonstrates the ability to take calculated risks and plan for contingencies.
+ Demonstrates the ability to listen, learn and teach.
+ Demonstrates awareness of the challenges of working in diverse cultural environments.
+ Demonstrates proficiency in local language and basic English.
+ Demonstrates customer collaboration, project management and business acumen skills.
What we offer:
+ Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $99,600-132,700 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
