Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) is seeking a Financial Reporting Specialist to compile data for and assist in financial reporting requirements for the State.
Job duties for this position include:
+ Preparing financial statements to be included in the State’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR)
+ Coordinating work performed by state agencies in support of the ACFR
+ Preparing other state and federal financial reports
+ Analyzing the interpretation and application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
+ Assisting in the preparation of the annual Statewide Cost Allocation Plan (SWCAP) that is submitted to the federal cognizant agency for their approval
+ Reconciling capital assets reported in the state’s General Ledger to the Asset Management module
+ Maintaining and developing ad hoc databases and reports to support the gathering and testing of financial information
+ Assisting in the development of ad hoc reporting for data analysis and providing financial information to management and the financial community
This position will have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. To qualify, the incumbent must be living in the State of Minnesota, or in a bordering state within fifty (50) miles from the main office. The incumbent will be required to complete a telework agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Two (2) years of experience* experience using or querying a complex accounting system, including compiling data and running reports.
+ Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
+ Demonstrated ability to prepare and present financial data and reports in a professional, timely, and effective manner.
+ Skill in designing, building, and maintaining complex spreadsheets and databases
+ Analytical and organizational skills to solve problems and initiate corrective actions
+ Communication skills sufficient to provide clear, respectful, and timely information to a variety of audiences regarding financial data
+ Demonstrated respect for diversity and a deep commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
*An associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field may substitute for six (6) months of experience; a bachelor’s degree in a similar field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications

+ A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in finance or accounting
+ Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
+ Experience in creating or auditing governmental financial statements
+ Experience with PeopleSoft and/or SWIFT
+ Experience with nVision reporting
