Pharmacy Operations Coordinator
The Pharmacy Operations Coordinator provides managerial support to the Director of Pharmacy and other Pharmacy Department personnel through day to day operation of the drug distribution process to include, but not limited to: supervision and training of technicians, employee feedback involvement for technicians in the process/area, ensuring adequate stock levels of drugs are maintained, shortage strategies, IV workflow technologies. This position is responsible for supporting a patient and customer focused department in support of the delivery of exceptional patient care.
What you will do in this role:
+ Performs all basic duties of clinical staff pharmacist through providing medication information to healthcare staff, pharmacokinetic dosing, assistance with technical duties, and dispensing services.
+ Supervises technicians in the performance of their assigned duties on a daily basis and prioritizes tasks in the event of staffing shortages
+ Assures compliance with pharmacy laws and provides staff guidance when appropriate in regards to regulatory agencies including The Joint Commission standards, National Patient Safety Goals, and USP 795, 797 and 800, and participates in quality assurance activities to evaluate and maintain safe medication practices.
+ Helps maintain departmental policies and procedures related to sterile and non-sterile product preparation, storage, and distribution
+ Assists in maintaining optimal operations of the facility’s ADC systems
+ Assists in overseeing the facility’s diversion prevention efforts
+ Assists in the planning, development, organization, operation, and evaluation of pharmacy services. Assesses and changes pharmacy operations in coordination with the pharmacy management team.
+ Assist in maintaining IV workflow system
+ Actively communicates policy and procedure changes to appropriate staff
+ Oversees and directs workflow related to sterile and nonsterile product compounding and documentation
+ Assists with ongoing cost containment initiatives for medication use and operations. Provides other management reports as required
+ Assists in maintaining appropriate information systems to optimize pharmacy workflow
+ Coordinates with the Information Systems Pharmacist on operational activities related to informatics, order entry systems (i.e. drug dictionary, order sets) and automated dispensing cabinets.
+ Coordinates with the Pharmacy Buyer on operational activities related to drug use, control, inventory and billing
+ Monitors medication drug supply. Assist the Pharmacy Director with communicating stock needs and drug shortages pertinent to meeting the immediate needs of patients with the pharmacy staff.
+ Assists in the recruitment, interviewing and evaluation of pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns as applicable to the pharmacy department and helps coordinate new hire training
+ Ensures monthly nursing unit and pharmacy inspections are complete.
+ Assists in precepting pharmacy students and residents, including coordinating rotations, scheduling, precepting, and completing evaluations
+ Maintains professional growth and development through participation in seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to remain current in field sterile product preparation, storage, and handling
+ Helps ensure that the department is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion
+ Monitors and verifies completion of PI and QA processes within the department. Verifies and coordinates completion of unit/area inspections, expiration date audits and IV-work area inspections to ensure on-time completion and documentation
+ Assists with developing the pharmacist and technician schedule
+ Assists with supervising technicians in the performance of their assigned duties on a daily basis and prioritizes tasks in the event of staffing shortages
+ Assumes other responsibilities in the management of the Pharmacy Department as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy
+ Attends meetings and participates on committees as required
+ Assists with the coordination and safe dispensing of alternative medications in response to medication shortages
+ Maintains a productive, collaborative relationship with all hospital staff and vendors
+ Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director and/or organizational leadership
+ Practices and adheres to the Code of Conduct and Mission and Value Statement of HCA Healthcare.
What qualifications you will need:
+ Graduate of an Accredited School of Pharmacy required
+ Licensure in the State of TN. Board Certification preferred
+ Three-years hospital experience required
