    The nurse manager is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors; ensuring that standards of practice and quality of care are maintained; sustaining customer focused care, managing human and financial resources; and aligning the department's goals with the hospital's strategic priorities.

     

    Promotes individual, peer and departmental accountability to the mission, vision, values and strategic priorities of the organization. Assists with the development and modification of goals and objectives for the department, and assures that the goals are achieved. Maintains standards of practice. Promotes evidenced based care for all patients served by the department. Assures compliance with national standards, professional and regulatory guidelines that govern patient care (e.g., Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) Provides oversight for department quality improvement activities, and facilities change. Actively communicates, negotiates interdepartmental resources, and plans with other managers to ensure efficient utilization of resources across departments and to provide highest safety, quality and services standards throughout the organization. Sustains patient (person)-centered customer service with a focus on positive patient experience and engagement. Develops and monitors processes such as patient flow to assure patient access, best interests, and satisfaction. Provides service recovery as needed. Assists with the development and implementation of department staffing plans and clinical workflows. Adjusts staffing plan to patient volumes, needs and staff skill mix in partnership with Practice Manger. Supervises clinical staff and assures that standards of performance are met. Displays effective performance management in interviewing, hiring, coaching, developing staff, providing counseling/disciplinary action. Provides meaningful employee recognition. Fosters a spirit of teamwork and unity among staff that allows for healthy disagreement over ideas, and effective conflict resolution. Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Promotes shared governance. Empowers staff by providing context and framework for employee contribution. Maintains transparent communication. Appropriately transfers organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, email, IM (Instant Messaging), and regular interpersonal communication. In collaboration with centralized educators and/or practice management, ensures development of orientation, departmental and staff education plans. Coordinates appropriate education to meet the plans, including, but not limited to competency evaluation, drills and simulations. Maintains appropriate clinical competence in supervised areas and has the ability to cover staff when needed, or to staff during times of patient need.

     

    Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited RN nursing program. BSN required upon hire or within 2 years of hire, OR BS in another field with 5 years of RN experience. MSN preferred

     

    Minimum Experience: Minimum 3 years of clinically related experience with progressive responsibility. Teaching experience and/or supervisory experience preferred.

     

    Specific Skills, Knowledge and/or Competencies: Excellent interpersonal and communication skill required.Handles confidential material with maturity, sensitivity and discretion. Adapts to stressful situations quickly and effectively.Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to handle fluctuating workloads in a multi-focused work setting while adjusting scheduling to productivity. Demonstrates critical thinking.Demonstrates ability to delegate appropriately. Understands and utilizes principles of superior customer service. Skilled with electronic health records, MS word, power point, excel, and access database. Data analysis and interpretation skills required. Ability to analyze productivity, financial benchmarking and budget data.Performs payroll duties in a timely manner.
