    Position Standards:

    * Graduate from accredited institutions required.

    * Licensed Registered Nurse in New Hampshire required.

    * Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required and Master’s degree in Nursing, or related healthcare field, as well as experience in direct patient care required. Will consider candidates who have enrolled in a Master’s program with expected completion within 3 years of hire

    * A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible management experience in nursing.

    * Certification in a nursing specialty or administration preferred.

    * Continuing professional education with membership and participation in organizations such as the American Organization for Nurse Leaders (AONL) or The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) preferred

    * Lean /Six Sigma experience with knowledge of quality improvement/high reliability principles preferred

    Position Objective:

    *

     

    In partnership with the Chief Nursing Officer, leads, evaluates and directs inpatient clinical operations and is responsible for the operational management of inpatient units, patient flow, and related programs. Works collaboratively with leadership and oversees clinical and ancillary staff to ensure the provision of quality patient care. Ensures that all clinical activities comply with budgetary, hospital, regulatory and accreditation requirements. Responsible for the planning, organization, and administration of nursing operations to include staffing, training, and documentation to maintain the highest quality patient care standards.

    Performance Expectation:

    * Directs clinical and administrative operations including oversight of development and implementation of plans, operations, and programs within assigned or across clinical service lines.

    * Supports the development of annual strategic plans for designated areas of responsibility and oversees plan implementation which is in alignment with organizational and overall system strategic goals.

    * Collaborates with administrative and medical leadership in designated service lines, supporting shared accountability and leadership.

    * Ensures achievement of safe, high quality, and cost effective care for patients within established facility guidelines and philosophies. In collaboration with Administrative and Physician partners, is responsible for the quality of patient care and fiscal management of operations & staffing of designated areas.

    * Accountable for providing leadership and direction by recruiting, developing, retaining, and recognizing professional staff through the advancement of continuous learning and improvement of nursing services. Ensures succession plans are developed for high potential talent.

    * Initiates and maintains effective physician/care team relations, providing superior problem-solving skills in a collaborative, team-based approach.

    * Evaluates patient/staff/physician engagement. Reviews patient satisfaction data and comments on a regular basis and shares with team members. Implements activities to improve the patient and family experience in the inpatient setting. Addresses any complaints or concerns in a timely manner. Reviews team member satisfaction and engagement data annually and implements activities to improve engagement. Rounds with all staff regularly. Evaluates turnover risks and implements strategies to reduce turnover.

    * Develops operational/business plans for their designated areas and oversees implementation assuring alignment with overall system strategic goals. Establishes departmental direction consistent with health system objectives.

    * Assures effective communication and coordination of initiatives among various work teams, the nursing infrastructure and other health system medical staff committees, councils, and work groups.

    * Helps establish and leads within the framework of shared governance/distributed decision-making, empowering nurses to make decisions regarding nursing practice issues.

    * Coordinates the resource needs for areas of responsibility, including reviewing and approving budgetary recommendations for areas of responsibility. Balances quality and cost in making decisions on how resources are utilized and budgeted

    * Serves as a role model and resource to others. Remains current with local trends and changes in nursing professional/practice. Ensures that department/staff meet Board of Nursing, and other regulatory/licensure requirements.

    * Professionally represents, supports, and covers for the Chief Nursing Officer.

    * Consistently reviews and makes recommendations on policy issues in order to align with the organizational and strategic direction. Has authority to approve policies within inpatient care and patient flow.

    * Works to identify key processes to ensure patient flow, bed utilization within the organization and across the system.

    * Performs other duties as required or assigned.
